As a matter of fact, I have always used single-component auto-putty, the one that can be dissolved with acetone, if it doesn't work out ... I don't often use products made especially for modellers ...

I don't use the hobby putties as I am 400 miles from the unrest hobby shop, but have had excellent results using auto body materials on both wood and plastic. For hulls bonds auto body 2 part hardening filler makes a good base for sanding and painting. Bondo glazing putty works quite well for the applications where you might use the hobby putties and are available at your local auto parts emporium.
