Thanks Martin, I`m sure I have some more pics somewhere. My file keeping skills are not what they should be. I`ll have another look and post them.

Hello Picketboat

I had started the V&W a while back, its for a friend but I put the build off in order to make the Cornwall as he was in no rush. I did take some pics just to show him how it was going but the quality is poor. Now I have started the build again I`ll post pics as I go and try to improve on the quality. The Ajax remains a "maybe"...

Len

Superb model making.
I know little about the vessel (historically a bit outside my area) but still a nice looking vessel. I love the little Walrus on it's launch ramp. A neat job Well done.
If you build the V and W please post a full build log as I am sure there are techniques we can all learn. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Thanks Dave

I think for future photos I`ll invest in a decent camera. These didnt come out very well.

Anchors and boats fitted. I`m going to re-rig the masts to see if I can get the lines tighter.

The display idea is great.

Hello,

For display, I have in my army office, a large mostly empty shelving unit that has followed me around over the years during office moves that really needs something to fill the space. The plan was to mount them on their own display bases, oak boards (Heart of Oak and all of that) with brass stands and name plates. Red felt backing on the boards. My father still loves to tinker in the wood shop so I am sure he would be happy to make the bases for me with routed edges etc. They would be either at home around the bar area in my basement or on the shelf in my office. My office has always been very Spartan when it comes to decorations but I have been told now, due to my new position, I need to ramp it up a bit and make it look more presentable by adding some atmosphere.

An old army friend, years ago, did up a bunch of 1/600 ships RN modern, (with a good lot of Leander frigates) with all the photo etch and scratch building to enhance them and had them on those simple wood bases around his large den. They looked so nice among the book selves, guns, swords etc that he had collected. Ships just seemed like very appropriate pieces to have sitting in there.

I have thought about doing some waterline in a diorama but have never been very happy with my ability to create the water effect which would be critical. I have seen some very nice work of model ships at sea but just can't effectively emulate that to my satisfaction.

At the rate I am going, I will be retired from the army reserve long before I ever get them all done.

Your build is certainly pushing me to get at least one ship going but I have so many other things to do, which is always the case. I really need to get my 1/72 ships finished and off the bench to make room for much more manageable smaller projects.

Just out of interest James, how would you display them if you do finish them?

Hello,

That was the plan, to have all the Kent class. Had them for 20 years and haven't started one yet. Just been building up documentation for the builds. I did intend them all to be early war versions as I like the planes on them.

I am still looking at getting more so I can build the London and Norfolk subclass ships too. The .8m difference in length would not be noticeable at 1/600 but could be added. It is only 1.3mm difference.

If they get done, it will look impressive (I hope  )

Again, love this build, great looking ship.

Thanks James

8 Counties! are you going to model them all as different ships ? (that will be a lot of research).

Hello,

Great build of a County Class cruiser. I have 8 1/600 Airfix ones to build some day and this is inspiration (not that I can get that detailed in 1/600).

Thanks Neptune

It was a difficult subject to research like a lot of Royal Navy ships. I`m using the book and drawings from Profile Morskie which are a bit confusing in a couple of areas, but its probably the way I`m interpreting them? Just small bits like boats, anchors and the rigging to finish then I`ll look to building the case.

Great build of a rather unusual subject. Perhaps more popular in UK, but I haven't seen many models of this kind of ships so far! Great result at building it as well. Must have been quite an effort, certainly in such a rather small scale for such a complicated subject. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:
