Japanese Ships in general have graceful lines but the Kongo's being battlecruisers and having a short Pagoda are indeed very nice to look at. Anyway, I have done some rigging (by no means a full rigging which is far too tedious for me in 1/700) and added the flag, finished the floatplanes, and added some decals there as well. Although this ship is by no means a masterpiece it has thought me a lot of useful tricks and methods to weather. I can also state that this will be the last ship in 1/700. 1/700 PE is something I am not build for, it can be done but with so much frustration that the point in pursuing this hobby would seem pointless. Anyway here are the pictures, my next build (without a log I think) will be the IJN Mikuma 1/350 from tamiya enhanced with the usual goodies. Here are two pictures, with that I am glad to pronounce this build log closed, at last. Hello fellow modelers, First of all thank you Dan, the amount of annoyance is higher than mount Everest but it seems to go well, thanks for the encouragement. This ship has cost me a lot of toil and frustration, but the past weeks have been very busy, still, I have managed to squeeze a few hours out of my schedule and work on this little annoyance, I mean an unfinished ship in your display case is not an enjoyable sight I think. Anyhow, I decided to use this ship as a test object for the future, by using post shading for the first time, employing highly diluted white, and a new way uf hull weathering with AK enamels in the rust and brown range. I dulled the post shading on the red hull with red grime from AK after which I applied a little bit of 2 different brown grimes to give it a bit of a rusty color tone. I however don't know whether it is really that nice and would appreciate some advice on how to improve the result. on a side note, my airbrush needs replacing, this thing isn't suited for this kind of stuff I think, too cheap and rough. I hope this update finds you all in good health, Since the study has commenced again after the summer holidays time has become more scarce, even more so because of the fact that my music study, which I privately follow apart from my general Bachelor study, is also taking a lot of time (I play the (pipe)organ). Still, I have been able to squeeze in a handful of hours this week. I have continued in building the Pagoda while also working on the Lifeboats. I haven't pictured of these yet because it is mainly a lot of cleaning and thinking whether I'll give hem the same wash as the main deck, which I have decided I will. I am thinking of experimenting with the postshading for the first time. I would like to be able to use this skill on the Nagato and Bismarck in 1/350 in due time and this might be a good start. But I was wondering, apart from white, black and a little brown (all diluted very heavily 90-95% I thought I had seen somewhere), which colors should I use to postshade the red hull to dull the colors and to give it a worn rusty look? In all honesty I must admit that PE in 1/700 is a far greater challenge to me than it has been in 1/350 so far. It is small and what the eye doesn't see at first, the pictures will show without mercy. I have bought another sample of the kit because I'll finish it. Before the 1st of October if all goes well. I have continued with what I had build already and replaced the Pagoda of the old kit. Right now the pagoda is finished thus far that all plastic pieces, doors and windows have been added. Now I must finish the railings and then its time for the airbrush to do his job. Speaking of airbrushes my Chinese clone seems to be giving up on me, so maybe I've got to buy a new one  . Enfin, in the upper part of the Pagoda one of the PE pieces is skewed, but with the Eye it is barely visible, I only saw it when I looked at the pictures. It shows again that PE in 1/700 leaves so much less room for error. I don't think I'll revisit this anymore,
currently I have a Hood 1/350 under construction and the difference in how much I enjoy building these 2 scales is massive. Maybe I'll just gift it to someone who'd be able to do it justice.

This also good advice. It's exactly how I sand a lot of my putty repairs on my 1/700 build. It sometimes takes a while to complete the sanding but I've found this method allows for good control in tight spaces (320 grit is my go-to).

Thanks Greg for the advice, I don’t have any spare PE because this was my first 1/700 PE project. But it must be available at the local store. For now I am going to leave this thing shelved I think for a cooldown period. But the model deserves to be finished, so I’ll be paying a visit to the local store for some parts and then finish the build  Thanks Greg for the advice,

Sorry for your misfortune. I would probably try to separate the glued bridge levels then remove the putty and damaged pe. I would repair any damage to plastic with styrene strips and putty then replace windows with generic pe windows.

Sadly enough I have stumbled upon a slight problem, when transporting everything downstairs I let the pagoda slip which dropped 2 floors down the stairs  . That in itself is not the worst but several decks were damaged, I tried to repair the thing but I can't work with putty since I never did it so, this one pretty much failed, os to say. And here we are once more, made a little progress between now and the last update and while I was busy with work and the Hiei my birthday also coincided with this week. I got a load of books and the IJN Mikuma from Tamiya with the Eduard set and metal barrels. But that is for a much later build. on to the Hiei, I proceeded with some of the super structure on the funnels and surrounding areas, chipping and cutting away plasting and replacing it with PE while also adding the PE to the finished funnels. Here come the pictures (of the Mikuma present and the Hiei) The box is large, it is as large as the trumpeter 1/350 hood box  The PE is not very much but suffices, with maybe some finemolds 25mm aa guns some nice riggings and weathering this ship will at some point become quit nice. Will be quite a relaxing build after the Hood that is coming up after the Hiei.  The boxart of the ship is very nice, I like this 5x triple turret configuration which is why I asked the Mikuma and not the Mogami.  about the update, I added a funnel and some platforms around the funnels as well as a platform supposed to connect to the pagoda. The PE is all Fujimi's and the 25mm are all finemolds, I started adding shields to the 25mms but then stopped and currently, I am looking through my IJN catalog wheather these were present in reality, however I havent been able to find anything on it, so maybe i'll just let it be. Thanks Dan, this scale is a challenge but it is progressing slow but steady, at least as far as I am concerned I am going much slower than used to,
here is the next update, all PE on the turrets, except for the ladders which will be added last because they aren't shown in the drawings provided by Fujimi, and I don't want tot use them before finishing all other PE to prevent using them in the wrong place. Finished 1 funnel, started another, and drilled some portholes.

Thanks, Greg, that WV was my second serious 1/700 ship, turned out nice, even though in hindsight I regret not adding railings. As for the Hiei kit, the PE is very small, I really underestimated that and the quality of the kit in terms of flash is a little meh, but when the necessary effort is poured in it looks very, very nice. However where the Yahagi made leaps this one will progress in much smaller steps, with the Yahagi I just wanted to finish it ASAP, that goes for this one too but patience is a wise master when modeling and the result really improves with shorter and slower rounds of work, Here is a first update, flight deck done, turrets assembled, PE for the turrets is currently underway, search planes made, several portholes (half of the portside has been done) I hate the drilling so I do a little at the beginning or end of every round of work.
