Fantastic!
Sometimes, one feels there is no improvement possible anymore, and then you do something like this… :)

It looks so delicate it truly belies its' scale. The model also looks much more complex than I thought it would. It also has a great feeling of weight, and the colors fit together beautifully, making it look very realistic.
Another masterpiece!

Looking forward to the next one!

Jim, as always, a great work :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: .

It´s impossible to me to enhace your work with words. Awesome seems to be a short word to describe your work.

Really nice. The model is very complex considering it's size.

Yep, another of those miniatures that would drive me nuts, if I had to do it at this scale ... :thumbs_up_1:

Very nice! :thumbs_up_1:

The way you made the yard arms, is very interesting. Which tubing did you use? From which supplier?

The foot ropes look really much better than the too thick PE parts!

Jim,
this is a perfect model again!
Every detail, even the tiniest is to scale.
Your rigging is perhaps the finest I have seen
and the seascape is most convincing too.
Congrats,
George Pék

That is it!!!!

enough...! -- Gangut is finished... I dare not fiddle about more...
( I almost totally unrigged her as I was adding ' just one more halyard'.... *(!!)

and caught the main shroud with the edge of the tweezers..

aaarrrrrggghhhhhhh................... :Mad_6: :Tirade:

I then patiently........ stripped and re-rigged.

She is done

herewith a couple of quick shots

more soon in the gallery!
cheers

The rigging is i-n-c-r-e-d-i-b-l-e. Nothing to compare with PE. Even extra fine wire won't look better...
:thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:
Stunning job...

Hello all!

on tthe home stretch now-- the part I enjoy most rigging-- has now almost been completed

The tapered mast was made in this instance as usual of stainless steel rod spun in a drill with the stainless rod in a v-shaped groove in the bench to control an oscillation-whilst removing material on the spinning rod using a file

The stepped tapered yard arms-- as per photo below-- were made using micro tubing with stainless wire inserted and the step bridges with white glue

Of particular note were the yard arm foot-ropes--these were made of stretched sprue--
making one bowed piece of sprue along the yard arm--then using another piece of thinner stretched sprue , the end of which has been dipped in 'hot' Revell professional cement which is then attached at the chosen point of subdivision.

The hot cement partially melts and softens the larger longitudinal bow--when the vertical is gently pulled upwards a discernible kink is formed--the vertical is then attached to the yard arm and the waste removed

repeat numerus times and have a break when you get cross eyed!

this is both tricky and fiddly but sooooooo much finer and less clunky than any PE versions I have as yet come across

and the torpedo net spar rigging-- barely discernible against a black hull...

all this seemed seemed to take forever--along with rigging to all the davits and signal halyards etc etc!! :Mad_6: :eyes_spinning: :eyes_spinning:

eventually the rigging was almost completed(( still a few shrouds to add)

and a start was made on colouring the calm Baltic Sea...

Thank you !-

the minutia is taking its time...

The 2 large stocked anchors--reminiscent of old large sailing ships-of-the-line...

Among many omissions and inaccuracies in the kit, the resin anchors were commendably good - fragile- and very nice--

apart from being about 25% overscale!!

Making my own replacements took its time...

Made of wire- with styrene timber stock with paper flukes

very fiddly and a number of failures all over the floor... (!!!! )

despite the over-scale chain ( which is already very small! ) the result
does kind of look the part

I also made new fair-leads-- after cutting away the oversize resin versions

by using some coarse old PE ladder, cutting away the rung and bending the sides in ...

The fwd davits were controlled via (wire?) ropes via pulleys on the main mast as well as a dedicated 'pulley mast '

the pulley sheaves appear in photos to have been mounted in a sheave cage

I made these using pieces of 1/350 stud-link chain( WEM Koenig) , squeezing them up and installing a brass circle disc (PE aircraft wheel )

sounds easy-- alas ... the mountain of failures littering the bench was quite impressive( in a miniature way! )

the results are quite satisfactory--

though they rather put my figure modelling skills to shame-- must spend ( yet) more time on the crew--inspired by Marjin in his Lexington story...!

Installed on the ship- I think they will look the part...

Hello Jim,

All those thin small bits add enourmously to the look of finesse of the model, quickly making it look much larger than it actually is.

A true masterpiece again!

Cheers,

Marijn
