Topic review - What if upgraded Atlanta class

If sold during the early 60's the FRAM refits of the Gearings might be a good place to look for ideas for the first return to service refit.

During the 60s we saw a great increase in electronics and, of course, guided missiles. Would these ships get a refit to make them a DLG/CLG?

If so, take a look at the Mitscher class, as two of those were refit adding Tatar with the Mk 13 GMLS - sold all over the world, so certainly plausible to be sold for this application.

The Electronics would drive a need for space, so I'r recommend adding some superstructure similar to what you see happened on the Mitschers.

For the 60s, MK 13 and ASROC would probably be realistic adds, and you could make a case for the Helo hangar early as the FRAM refits were adding the pad and hangar for DASH drones about that time.

Into the 70's, I could see those DASH hangars being expanded to manned Helo size.

Depending on the country, you might see some differing secondary gun mounts or the addition of a few other country specific items - OTOMAT and the OTO Melara 76mm or DARDO 40mm if Italian, for instance.

Identify the specific country, then the role of their navy in their national defence policies, and then figure out how an Atlanta hull might fit within that structure. Assume this timeline of yours does not differ from history, and that the only thing different is the addition of the one ship. So trace the country's defence policy from end of WWII through to 1991, and see if their navy's role has changed, and whether the navy's force structure changed to match that role. Some countries are better at at matching means and ends than others. Once you figure out what their navy does, you can then see whether and how an Atlanta hull may be modified to fit those ends.

...or you can just throw on whatever looks cool.

What if the Atlanta class was sold to an AU eu nation around the 1960's.
What did they get upgraded with through their lifetime till 1990 (end cold war).

I was thinking about removing the Side dual 5 inches and replace them with smaller Bofors guns.
Later on add a hangar with helodeck at the back.
And later on that add a seapsparrow box at the front and a single 5 inch gun.

Any tips?
