There's obviously some great skill shown in these builds!

How often do group builds happen? Whenever? Or every few months?

I mostly scratchbuild, but have a few kits stashed away, if it has to be a kit build.

My Kagu Maru conversion has found a little more paint and some cargo (unpainted). Cargo winches are scratchbuilt, with resin copies. At this point I think the only kit parts are the hull halves, aft house, gun tubs and bandstands (and even they're resin).

Next order of business will be the front of the deck house which will come from the kit part with a little modification.

Thanks Nick! The deck is oak sealed with Squadron green putty, sanded smoothed & resealed with primer. I used several brushed-on coats of Tamiya XF-79 Linoleum Brown, then glued down Flyhawk's brass deck strips. The deck weathering, I'm embarassed to say, is little more than putty dust brushed into the grain.

This weekend, I should have the 3.1" AA gun and torpedo tubes done...kit bashed leftovers from the Aoshima Nagara. More pix will follow as progress is made.

I'm still with my Akagi!
It will be ready very soon, in some weeks, hopefully!

PErhaps I'm so very slow than snail!

After Akagi I will building 1:150 Pamir for my wife and also 1:350 King George V or perhaps I must start my the first stratchbuild RMS Carpathia!?

Last message went out a little early. The first shot is the Aoshima Nagara with my Tatsuta for a sense of size. Attached are a few more detail shots.

Thanks Nick, this was fun! My first group build and my first scratch build. I was not able to finish completely, but I'm happy with what I've done so far. It's amazing how work can get in the way of model building.

My Tatsuta build is down to finishing the funnels, scratch building the triple torpedo tube mounts, adding boats, deck details, portholes and rigging. The hardest part of this build was deciding how to fabricate alot of the parts, and guessing at details where there is little or no documentation. This is a great way to build appreciation for the folks who design those great resin and injection kits we want. More pix to follow as the build wraps up.

Well, thanks to some family issues and life getting in the way I didn't get very far by today. I'll start a thread over in the WIP section later and continue in there. I was able to get the hulls and superstructures painted and ready for some PE but not much further than that. Oh well, I'll finish 'em when I can. I'd rather not ruin another kit.

My 1:700 Kagu Maru is going to miss the finish line, but I think my past couple of weekends have been better spent.

The car my son and I built took second place overall in his Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. A good friend of his built a slightly faster car, but second out of 95 still feels great, and we had a good time building it together.
