Hello Blackcloud6 ~ maybe you wish to check out this site:

http://uboatcolours.mysite.wanadoo-memb ... page1.html

There's plenty of information about German WWII sub colours but it's always difficult to pin-down the livery of a specific boat. At least this site states the colour of U-69's upper hull as being "Hellgrau 50" during the commisioning ceremony. Later in the war, this colour could have changed to "Hellgrau 51" as it seems to be adopted for this model:

http://www.modelships.de/U-Boot_Ferlema ... Photos.htm
(Yes, I know, never judge colours from another model...)

Another option could be "Schlickgrau 58" - even Prien's U-47 was painted that colour - at least on it's very last voyage. I like this colour, I painted my Revell type VII-D that way.

I've used the WEM Colorcoats for it. Their a/f seems to be a bit on the greenish-blueish side, but I'm happy with it.

Deck colour ~ the wooden deck was painted black but your choice depends on how much weathering you would like to add, i.e. if you represent the black being worn off or only slightly weathered. Everything from deep black down to a (grey?) wooden colour is allowed....

Hope this helps ~ Olaf

cant help with the paint but would always recomend painting in sub assemblies. So leave the conning tower off. :thumbs_up_1: also check the link on the same page just below yours posted by Olaf.

Type C nearing paint - need advice

by Blackcloud6 » Mon Jan 08, 2007 8:21 pm

My 1/72 Type VII C nears closer to receiving paitn. I am doing U-69; "La Vache Qui Ri!" What paints best represent the camouflage colors of the lower hull, upper hull/conning tower and the deck? I prefer acrylics, tamiya if possible, but I can paint with anything.

Also, is it recommeneded to leave the conning tower off or just put the whole thing together then paint it?

Thanks.
