Armor is pretty much useless unless your driving a County, Surrey, New Orleans, Renown, Repulse, Prince of Whales, Nelson, O-Project II, and maybe one or two more that I missed.

As I said in the other thread, armour is like AD&D THAC0 system. You hit or you don't hit. Where here replace the word "hit" with "deal damage".

When you start to lose speed, that is when you start sinking. Adding bulkhead allows you to stay afloat for longer. Does not affect amount of damage taken. I once put something like 200 bulk in my Sirius and even at around one thousand DP, I was still rolling at full speed.

As a rule, if you cannot carry 6"+ of armour, it's generally not worth it. South Dakotas I know carry 5" of deck armour, however my 11" LHE shells pass through them like a knife through hot butter.

As a note if you are part of the Kriegsmarine, don't wear armour, pack on the longest range guns and run from everything. My O-Project has around twenty thousand spare displacement for armour, but I still don't bother as my speed is more important (it's funny to see a battlecruiser outrun a Brooklyn ehhehehe)

Unfortunatly, like in real life, DDs cannot hold any appreciable amount of armour that will significantly reduce damage. Your real advantage in a DD is the ability to go fast. Speed is your main advantage, allowing you to run, or to rush into range at the right time.

Bulkhead only allows you to keep your engine running at higher speeds before dropping due to damage.

Spawned by the "Your Level, ship(s), Nation, and other stats" thread...

If I have some armor isn't it better than none? Does some Belt or some Deck lessen the damage? I know some bulge helps, if at least by stopping 1 more torpedo than without, but how about bulkhead? If you max out your bulkhead armor and have nothing else does that buy you more time afloat?

Just how do I get my ship to absorb a strong hit and begin smoking instead of rolling upside down and sinking immediately? I know a tin can is a tin can but.... A little something has to help doesn't it?
