Gentlemen,

I propose that this topic may be of interest and crosses the usual COSF lines. Recently I asked about flight deck numbers on [i]Bogue[/i] class VCEs, there was another question concerning flight deck markings shown in a photo of [i]Randolph[/i], and yet another concerning the switch (back) to large shaded hull numbers after World War II.

I'm not certain we have enough information, but it seems to me that a central repository of what is known or suspected, discovered, etc. might not be a bad idea. I recall there is information about the use of small hull numbers (size and location) and another regarding letter markings for Auxiliaries.

Some questions unanswered:
When did Navy revert to large, shaded hull numbers?
When did Navy switch to the new "lo-vis" hull numbers?
When were flight deck numbers added? Size, color, ships, variations (smaller light colored versus larger dark colored)?
