Perhaps not directly answering your question, but the colours used by the Kriegsmarine in WWII (mid grey hull, light grey superstructure) were the same as those used by the High Seas Fleet in WWI, just renamed. I find it unlikely they invented a new colour for the few decades in between, but I'm afraid I shall have to leave the question open for someone with more knowledge than me. :wave_1:

Interwar German Navy grey?

by Haijun watcher » Sat Jun 14, 2014 10:23 am

I have 2 questions that involve a couple of possible future modelling subjects.

1.) Did the late 1920s German Reichsmarine use the same German grey (Tamiya TS4) as the Kriegsmarine? If not, what grey did they use?

2.) Did the late 1930s Kriegsmarine ever use the above German grey? Because photos I've seen of an early Deutchsland/Lutzow show a light grey that may be similar to the light grey the RN uses, or even smoke-like grey the pre-war USN uses. Also, what was that light grey?

Thanks in advance.
