This is the way I display my Models - at the moment I only have 2 Model Ships , 1 of which have the full modern super-detailing
which is the 1/350 IJN[b] Yukikaze [/b]Destroyer by Tamiya ( with Infini brass guns and photo-etch etch and BECC Fabric Flag )

- the Battleship is my Tamiya [b]HMS Prince of Wales [/b]( 1/350 ) built in 1991 , with no aftermarket additions ( I didn't know about them )
expect for the Real Silk White Ensign Flag visible - a lovely kit none the less

I use the wonderful [b]Acrylic [/b]Display case ( made a few months ago specially ) and
I am very impressed with how strong and light the acrylic cover actually is !
for the Aircraft Kits , a Glass Display case with metal sides - which is very good , but expensive -
...
these keep the dust off the kits and are well worth the money -
I would also advise any[b] NOT [/b]to buy a ' ready - made ' PLASTIC mass-produced display-case
from the internet - as they can stick when you take off the lid , and wreck your object inside -
I was lucky that my aircraft ( 1/48 Mustang ) only lost the left undercarriage leg - which I was able to easily glue back on
needless to say I rapidly sold the display case - and also now pay extra for a bespoke item - pays in the long term

and for the Model Aircraft , an IKEA Cabinet - which is okay , but lets in dust -
I have altered the case , by adding silicone beading to the upper glass pane to stop dust dropping through -
and this helps , I also cheated , by dismantling the case - and adding 2 extra panes of glass - by screwing in
8 X L shaped small metal brackets held in with screws - and fitting the 2 new glass panes on top
- and this worked wonderfully !
I also have a glass shelf , screwed into my study room , where I display my Eduard Focke-Wulf 190 A-8 and the Hasegawa Ki.84 ( Frank )

Nother bump!

I only have one completed 1/350, a fictional LCS-2. My own 'showcase' is a bookshelf fronted by a hinged plexi-panel with several sci-fi models currently inside. I have a few more aircraft to work on before I get back to my /350 Warspite.

Love the models and their displays. Especially like the ones that look like maritime museums. Just incredible!

I love this thread. Even though this goes back awhile, I've immensely enjoyed viewing all the displays. My ships are still stashed here and there so nothing to post from my side yet. I have enjoyed seeing all of your displays and showing my wife that a couple of my ships on display is nothing. However, she has made it clear that she is obviously far less understanding than some of your wives. :)

Some great displays folks. One thing not mentioned that I've found can enhance your display as much or more than the cabinets is lighting - especially if you're using wooden cabinets with solid wood shelving. Finding good, affordable lighting that helps you really see the details in your model - after all you spent a heck of allot of time on them.

We went thru quite a few iterations but finally settled on microfluorescent (T5) in a 6400 (daylight) temp range for all ships "in the shelves" - vs. those on top where we light with incandescent spots. You can get the fixtures in any length (up to 60") and daisy chain them as needed. I try to use a single, long fixture in front and a shorter fixture in back so you don't create bad shadows. The fixtures are thin enough to be hidden behind a small wood valence and they really make for a nice display. If interested, here is a link (US company) that I've used - I run these 10-20 hours / week and they generally last 2-3 years.

I hardly have any finished models left after my "great purge" a few years ago and a move last year that was very hard on my plasticky things. :frown_2:

They're 2 cabinets now and my wife is... um, "renting" 1 half for the time being but eventually I plan on popping out the side glass panes where they meet, bolting the cabinets together and stocking it with some of the biggest 1/200 ships Trumpeter can throw at me. :woo_hoo:

So far I've been using plastic model display cases. Trumpeter has them in various sizes and will fit the biggest 1/700 ships. Not too classy looking, however, and all the clear tops have a characteristic molding nipple dead center on the top :Mad_6: . You can dress up the base with some wood strip or veneer, but it's sort of like putting make-up on a pig! :lol_pound:

Finally got around to getting a display case sorted out to bring all of my models together. :cool_2:

My space's limited, too. Only two small glass cabinets yet. But I hope more is yet to come :big_grin:

I don't have much living space and I hardly ever finish anything anyway. But as my last post for 2012 I can show you part of my living room bookshelf. There's always at least one 1/700 model in it.

Though technically unfinished (rigging....) Poelau Laut looks nice enough I think.
The real space subject next to 'Laut is also in 1/700. Takara's prepainted ISS built up as the station was in 2001 and with a reduced print of the movie poster on the base stand. Unlike the ship it actually draws attention by visitors and gets talked about.

Abram - You know, I've wondered sometimes whether there's a better alternative to throwing them out. I spent the better part of a year faithfully reproducing a King Tiger based on a photograph ... I couldn't get $50 for it on ebay. So selling my work doesn't seem realistic (although my wife thinks there might be a wider audience for ships).
