I have the 1/96 plug done . All I am concerned about is the hull shape right

I am working on a 1/96 scale plug of HMS ROBERTS. I am only interested in the hull shape. A good builder can move things or change itiem's using photos but the hull is another story . I have Ian Buxton's Big Gun Monitors . Years ago I asked this guestion and someone posted coments about the hull lines but I didn't write it down.

I agree with the assessment above, after having purchased the Profile Morski plan set for my build of the Akitsushima. The PM plans were wildly inaccurate and best set aside if you have misfortune to have spent your money on a set. Never again!

I have yet to see anything in PM that I would call correct; there is nothing in Buxton and only a few GAs in Robert's British Warships of the second world war; detailed in the original builders plans/ (which is a very nice volume to have regardless).

Do you have ( Big Gun Monitors ) by Ian Buxton ? I am working on a 1/96 scale Roberts that will be RC .

It looks like Ludwig has posted a part of the hull lines drawings for either HMS Roberts or HMS Abercrombie from the National Maritime Museum in London. Does anyone happen to know the drawing number or any other information I could use to also request a set of those drawings from the NMM?

Perhaps we could get these ships moved into the battleship section! Why? Quoted from Buxtons Big Gun Monitors on page 176

" No new monitors had been built between the wars. Not only would they have been of limited value, but they would have been regarded as battleships under treaty tonnage quotas if they mounted guns of greater calibre than 8in."

If it works for the treaty, should work here too! Besides they fired more 15 inch shells than all RN battleships combined, allowing the perfection of the 15 inch mounting.

Couldn't find it when I searched for it.
Very nice photos and build of HMS Roberts. Looking at the photos, admiration, inspiration and despair fill me.
If anyone wants to concentrate on British monitors, I guess that this thread can carry it.
Annyone have more info on the HMS Terror's camo scheme?

You might be interested in the exceptionally fine build of HMS Roberts featured HERE and at other sites.

It is perhaps the finest small-scale monitor build I've yet seen!

I wonder if there is any interest in HMS Abercrombie and HMS Roberts and other big gun monitors? I've tried to look for a thread and couldn't find any. I have the old Ian Buxton book and the monograph by ISO publications. I'm interested in 1/700 scale kits. Currently, what is the best kit? I have the HP Abercrombie kit and another Japanese resin kit of the Terror, I think. Can't find it now.
Does anyone have a profile that shows the camoflage scheme and color of HMS Terror before she was sunk?

According to Ian Buxton in his "Big Gun Monitors", "all of the main strength structure was rivetted, although a number of less important items like bulkhead stiffeners were welded."

I don't think you will get the rivet positions on a ships hull from the 'as fitted' NMM plans.

I would suggest close-up photographs are the best way to go.
Sometimes many photographs were taken by the yards themselves whilst under construction and these often are good to show such detail.

Thanks Ludwig for the images.
I�ve already found that these were riveted, and not welded hulls.
Unfortunatelly, and although I have those two books you mentioned, they don�t have any "rivets placement" (don�t know the exact term) plans, and I was considering building a 1/72 model. Without these plans, I cannot go forward, as I�m not sure were to place all those tiny rivets.
Do the NMM plans have any info on these so-called "rivets placement" plans ???

@ jmchaica , there are 2 books available , by BS or better known by Profile Morskie , on Monitors , HMS Abercrombie and HMS Roberts.

there are no close-up photo's of the hull , but the book has many drawings , I like the colour drawings very much.

I have searched in the book 'British and Empire Warships of the second WW' how the hull was made , but found no details. So I checked the plans I bought at NMM , and found this:

the shell plating is overlapping each other , so I think the plating must be bolted. After looking through these plans again , my fingers are itching for building a Monitor in 1/35. Dimensions in this scale 3m 25 x 77 cm 50 , not that much larger than my Torpedoboot Typ 39.
