I left out a couple of items in my
USS Yorktown CV-5 1940 review. So, here they are.
First, measuring the kit, it appears to be right-on in scale. Overall length is 14.16", with waterline length coming in at exactly 13.2". These measurements, based on the full-sized stated measurements in multiple sources, such as Wikipedia, Friedman, and a half-dozen other books I have on Yorktown and her sisters, are almost exact. My overall length measurement was likely a little sloppy, but even so, I'd dare to say that the model is very correct. The beam measures out at just under 1.9", which is just a little wide by a few thousandths, but not enough to notice or care.
Secondly, after the review was posted, I spoke with Tom's Modelworks about the flight deck, and they are indeed looking into beefing it up for future releases.
Finally, here are the three sheets of the painting guide, which mostly covers the aircraft markings, but also has some information on Yorktown's flight deck color, Y decal placement, etc.
