Yes I am seriously thinking about building a hull up Olympia. I see Fleetscale has a 1/96 hull avil. Little big for me to tackle in my work space. I would like to do it in 1/350, but I don't know if there is one available in that scale. Worse case I will end up using the Revell hull, and maybe some deck pcs.. I have not really done much research yet, I am going to see her in a few weeks in Philly and take pictures, and I have to buy a plan yet.

Hello Tony
Yes, Im preparing to do USS Olympia, 1795 in 1:128 scale. The hull I'm doing from solid basswood. I don't expect to start for a month or three as I have to finish my current project, but I'm gathering all the data and photographs I will need.
Why do you ask? Are you about to tackle her? If so, what scale etc?

Deck planking on USS Olympia 1895

by Grandad » Wed Sep 09, 2009 12:31 pm

Can anyone please help with the specification of the margin planks, waterways and nibbing of the deck planking on USS Olympia 1895? Also, what were the length of the full planks and how were the butt joints arranged, in a pattern of 3 or 4?
If we can't be specific for USS Olympia, what was the US naval custom of for deck planking in that era?
In hope
Roger
