What I have done may work for you.I build a lot of ships for clients that want engine room and other internal detail.What I do is make sure the frame area at the keel is exactly the same thickness as the keel vertically. This way when I cut the "NOTCH" in the frame it is only half the depth.The keel has a matching "NOTCH" with the other half of the cutout required.Then on the bottom I fasten a plate shaped to the bottom but strengthening that area. I hope this helps, as there are as many ways to do this are models out there. commodore4

I was considering just a one off hull, but if I make a decent job of the hull foundations, then maybe a plug and mold is a possibility....

Reasonably productive this weekend, give we were were on baby sitting duty all day today

Half the frames are rough cut out in 6mm marine ply, forward keel rough cut and the stern keel drawn and traced. Prelim drawings for skegs and stern tubes nearly finished. Will go to George in UK for review and production soon.

after making countless masters for fiberglss molds this is the way i do it as well..is this a one off or are you making a mold as well?? ...joe

Just arrived back in Aus after a 3.5 week long business trip.

Off to the plan printers tomorrow to get my 1/100 plans of a Slava enlarged and copied up to 1/72.

Getting excited - stand by for lots of questions though

Hi take a look at the build sequences at the top of the board {sticky] on Scratchbuild. It's all there . There are a number of methods you can use but if you have any further difficulties drop me a PM.

option B from the middle of the hull (main & largest frame) going rearward, option C from the middle of the hull going forward. So you'll have "meat" you can sand away to get the right shape.

Hi All,

I am looking for advice regarding the placement of frames on the keel for a plank on frame scratch build.

On the drawings the frames are typically shown as lines, in reality they will have a thickness. When making the slots in the keel to fit the frames, does one:

a. cut the slot such that the centreline of the frame lines up with line on the keel;
b. cut the slot such that the fwd edge of the frame lines up with the line on the keel, or
c. cut the slot such that the aft edge of the frame lines up with the line on the keel?
