The turrets for Takeo are not the correct ones for Kako. But they are available in the Skywave weapon set. If you are interested the set includes the single 8" (7.9 really) so you could build Kako as originally built. You need to buy 2 of the weapon sets though.

Come on you guys- It's not that bad. With the PitRoad/Skywave set you can make a decent Kako. :cool_1:

Oh boy. You're so in trouble...the Kako and her sisters are possibly the worst ship models I ever seen from the Hasegawa collection. The best thing for you to do, if you really want to have a go with this model, in terms of main turrets is to get the extra parts Skywave set E-5 "Equipment for Japan Navy Ship WW-2" which haves 3 different type of 8' gun turrets (including the Kako's ones).
I have Kako in my collection (unbuilt) and I did build Kinugasa some 12 years ago (the wreck is somewhere around here). There is no plastic kit so far more detailed then the old Hasegawa mold therefore I can't see any other way rather then overdetail the old model...perhaps the hull might be useful!!!

I am starting on the IJN Kako with the old Hasegawa kit (got it for free, so I can't complain). The 8" guns look terrible. I am wondering how to put the etch lines (where the armour plates meet) into the turret. Plus, how to create the gap between the side and the top of the turret.

In my Kumano, I treid to use an exacto knife, it worked on the armour plates, but I can't get the gap in. Plus it is exteremely time consuming and labour intensive. If you got a more elegant way, please tell me.
