Perhaps we were separated at birth! I also have [i]way[/i] too many acrylics.
I think one solution would be to order some Colourcoats from WEM, make colour chips, then try to match to acrylic (Mk.1 Eyeball). A bit long winded, but folks seem to think Colourcoats are a good match, colour wise, for the real thing.
Trying to match colours via monitor screen/printouts is next to useless. I did find somewhere a bright chap in the USA matching colours by using household colour charts from his local DIY store, a trip to the local Dulux shop or B&Q may be in order.
On the quest for the perfect acrylic, I must say that I am pleased with the results from using Aeromaster paints (same as PollyScale?), just started with Vallejo Model Air and Xtracrylix, initial results seem quite good. I work for Winsor & Newton and I am trying to get our R&D interested in model/hobby paint!
Good luck on your U-Boot, I have the 1/72 Revell S-Boot to build but am still amassing the research, PE etc. (One reason for starting warships was that I got bogged down in detail on aircraft, if only I knew!)

I have virtually the entire range of MM, Gunze, Vallejo, Tamiya, Andrea, Model Colour et al, all bought in the quest for the right Acrylic. The Enamel fans will say 'why go to those lengths when you have the right item here and available now' I buy my Gunze from Austria and the States. The MM come from the States. I digress. Perhaps we can compare notes on colours. I am doing my own chips for the colours, where there is no written options and using good old 20/20 vision under natural light if necessary. Perhaps even pool orders if you want to buy from abroad.

I have the 1/72 U-Boat C/41 sat on my worktable as I wait for the correct Eduard Pe. I even bought the Nautilus deck not realising it was for the earlier variant, so now I have the prospect of opening the wooden deck having already opened the Side Drain Holes

Hi Alan,
I have found myself in pretty much the same situation. I am fairly new at warships but come from an aircraft/armour modelling background and therefore have amassed a fair amount of acrylic paint over the years (have a look at my earlier post �Aircraft colours on warships?�).
Unfortunately, much as I would love to use �White Ensign Models Colourcoats�, I don�t really like to use enamels due to health reasons. I have started to pick up a few Humbrol enamel colours, with the intention of making my own colour chart that I can match up to my acrylics .
As a fellow Brit, I am sure you can appreciate the fact that some ranges of paint are hard to find here in the UK (Testors?) so personally I am limited to what I can find, Tamiya, Xtracrylix, Lifecolor and Aeromaster. Many of these paints come with FS numbers the problem is finding the correct FS number, or near match of the paint on the full scale item, in your case the Enterprise in mine the Kriegsmarine.
Maybe John @ WEM can poke us in the right direction?

Hi All,

I'm looking for the correct Acryl colours to paint my Tamiya 350 Enterprise. I generally use Model Master and Gunze and would really appreciate someone giving me the FS Numbers for the correct colours used on the actual ship. I have tried the colour comparison charts but they are not complete (unless you use Enamels). If anyone has been through this exercise and has a list of Acrylics to use as an alternative, or as well as the Tamiya, that would be appreciated.
