You must allow for expansion of the insulation, so an opening along the keel will be needed so it doesn't burst the tape. The idea here is to get a rough shape that you can sand down to the hull ribs. Once you have reached the ribs, do the hull with putty, sand, then fill imperfections with putty.

BTW, who or what is Red Green???

Red Green would suggest duct tape. The one thing that strikes me is that it would have to be really strong or you would have bulges between the ribs depending on the scale and size of the model. Tape on scratch built hulls

I read with interest a short time back that some folks use tape to make a temporary skin over the hull ribs, then fill the voids with insulation or resin. This is my first time trying this technique, so I am curious as to what kind of tape I should use. Masking tape, duct tape, blue tape? Duct tape seems to be the sturdiest, but would it not stick to and pull away spray on insulation? Masking tape seems awfully thin, doesn't have much adhesive, and would not make a stiff enough skin IMO to hold the insulation during the expansion. Has anybody had experience doing this before?
