Re: Scratchbuilding USCGC DUANE 1943

ARH wrote:Tommy, the project is stopped for the time being, I am getting IRON DUKE ready for a show.

Yes! My all time favorite build! I just wish Victorious (Geoff) would have finished the Marlborough.

Re: Casualty ratios

... when war is your business, as it was with many Celts and English, well the end was in sight. In fact my Viking ancestors played hell with those victorious English and Celts of the British Isles. :woo_hoo: We came on the scene over 400 years after the English. But then, the Danes got there first ...

Re: Why did the Central Powers ultimately lose the war?

... Two, the whole point of the Schlieffen plan is to kick out France quickly, without the need ofr any grinding down. Granted, during a victorious war against Russia Germany would have suffered, but don't underestimate what they tend to call the spoils of war. Oh, and three - I hate ...

Re: Why did the Central Powers ultimately lose the war?

Ouch - again I have to agree with Chuck... I see no possible scenario where Britain would carry on the fight against a Germany victorious over France and Russia - the Germans would probably have bought the peace if necessary. "Want Calais and Dunkirk back which the treacherous frog ...

Re: Seeking HMS Victorious book

Yeah got that one, but I'm told the book I'm looking for is much better. Have already found an inaccuracy in the Watton book, it notes 809 Sqdn Mk2 Fulmars from Jan 1941, when in actual fact it was 800z Sqdn Mk1 Fulmars from 11th May-June 41, the Mk2's from 809 Sqdn did not embark until July 41 &...

Kenny, without access to the account you're sending to, there's just no way to know whether someone even gets an email, let alone opens it or not.

ARH may know of a way to get ahold of him, but I've tried emailing him with no reply... he didn't even open the message, so he probably doesn't use the account anymore.

Re: HMS Victorious references

Another obscure book about HMS Victorious is Victorious The World Over by Ray Barker. Like the previously mentioned Send Her Victorious by Michael Apps, it is primarily an operational history, not a technical one.

Re: HMS Victorious references

See Friedman's British Carrier Aviation. THis will give you the AA fit, but not the locations. Also you will be unable to paint the correct camouflage design onto the model. Suggest therefore that you chose a different date.

Re: HMS Victorious references

The only snag is it only has a 3/4 view of the 2pdr Pom Pom's (about the only omission!) so if anyone can point me towards those I'd appreciate it! It's the 3/4 view you typically get in all AOTS books. Go to John Lambert Plans and order an expensive drawing if you really need all the angles of thi...
