Here are my four of the five Admiral Hipper class heavy cruisers.
Front; Blucher (under construction)
Second; Admiral Hipper (90% complete)
Third; Prinz Eugen
Last; Lutzow (if the Germans would have completed it)

Enjoy!

Nice! Some of the differences really become noticeable side-by-side.

Yea that class is on my list too, unfortunately they only make the Admiral Graf Spee in 1/350 so I will have to modify two to make the other two sisters.

Take care with the bow of Blücher, it should be very much more like the Prinz Eugen than the Hipper!

What about Seydlitz? Wasn't she 90% complete before the German started to convert her to an aircraft carrier?

Oh absolutely correct, and yes she is on my list but not as a cruiser but as the Weser. I'm planing to convert a Prinz Eugen to make the carrier.

Ambitious. Nice work. Personally, I think these are one of the best looking class of ships ever built.

Agreed. Goodlooking ships and interesting builds!
And by the way- probably some of the best examples of how to get the least money in return for your investment… (reliability of machinery, range and displacement vs speed, armour and armament to mention the worst flaws). :Mad_6:

I'm looking forward to seeing your "Hipper-class carrier" in progress!

I built the Blücher a few years ago and documented my build on this forum. If this is of interest, you’ll find my build here: http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery ... /index.htm
If you go along with my build, I would like to advice you that my signal platform (bottom and behind main mast) is not quite correct. Dig around internet and see if you can find a good picture from the construction of the ship, and you have a good chance to spot the correct construction of the platform. :wave_1:

Finally getting there, here is a current pic of my Admiral Hipper some minor detailing left and rigging and she will join the ranks with her sisters. Also building the aircraft catapult cradle, loads of fun that is.

I first thought you were building some ships to model them at the stage of their construction / for a moment I thought thats a cool idea, to model an incomplete ship. :)

Nice ships you have there. I was sad to see that the Trumpeter Blucher kit is a Hybrid Hipper kit. It has Hipper's bow. I have written a review of the kit in the review section.

Beautiful ships! And a nice quartet. Nice models too!

But: I learned that German capital ships were 'he' and not 'she' (masculine preoccupation).

So shouldn't we speak of 'brothers' instead of 'sisters'?

Beautiful work. Care to elaborate how best to convert Hipper-Blucher-Eugen into Lutzow? I wanna build only Lutzow but in USSR livery. Any tips to get the major bits right? I see you are canibilizing parts here and there.

pascalemod, how are you going to finish the model if the Russians didn't finish building the ship?

Hi pascalemod,
If you take a look at my other posts you’ll see one I did when I converted a Prinz Eugen into the Lutzow.
I did use parts from some but also scratch built sections.
I did a search online for as much info as I could find on the plans for the Lutzow, the other gentleman is correct the Russians never finished her, she was partially completed then bombed, repaired and before they could complete her she was pressed into service, but if you do a search you’ll find the name Project 83 or Petropavlovsk and just do a search but unlike the Lutzow where they show a drowning of what she (he) would have looked like if the Germans had completed her. Some sites sunset that the Russians intended to complete her to look like the German Lutzow with the only difference being the aircraft she carried.

Good luck!

Well aware Russians didnt finish, but who cares, this is making a model, and its no different then finishing a Lutzow. Id just do the russian paint on Lutzow and ditch the plane. ;)

Eh... hows this ever a problem when you building a paper design? No different then Montana project for example. Ill do it like it was intended, as planned Lutzow and repaint it russian colors. Noone here has an upper hand in terms of technical plans, its all free game. Millions of bismarcks out there. We need some variety. Thats why I liked this Lutzow build and would like to take it a step further. A what if is great if done right.
