I thought I would share what I get to see where I live. Commonly known as 'lower lakers', these self-unloading freighters serve our community where a salt plant, paper mill and an electrical generation plant all need shipments of coal for their power plant supply. We also have docks for off-loading of limestone and road salt. Fifty to sixty port entries per year. Two bascule bridges and a railroad swing bridge to allow both vehicle and waterway traffic. And a two mile pedestrian Riverwalk for viewing the nautical traffic.
