So
I have cheated
bought the hasgeawa flloat plane and catapult set, because I could not face building that again after building 2 for the yamato

cost 56 dollars
another 11 for glue, and 30 for stuff for the 6 inch casement guns

Now for the dilemma
Every plan I have, and so many kits I have seen show the casement guns different to what I have begun to build
I have definite , absolutely clear 1940 photo of her casement guns, so I am building to the photo.......

Sorry that I hadn't seen this post before. If you don't mind my saying so, I think some changes may be in order.

The configuration that you have depicted is representative of these mounts prior to the second modernization. The original casemates had extensions of the deck above, and the top of the mount shield had a locating sleeve to help keep it aligned.First pic below.

After the modernizations, the deck above was cut back, and the upper locating sleeve eliminated from the mount shield. See other pics below. You'll have to remove that upper band to be accurate for the time period.

Frustrating that you've had to wait so long. The work you've done so far is beautiful! I enjoyed watching your Yamato build too.

She looks very good, though, at the moment, a bit like her sister Haruna sunk at Kure 1945.

So, why did you not just continue your earlier Kirishima thread?

Herbie,

Maybe you should cancel the hull order and just build the hull from scratch. Waiting for 3 1/2 years is ridiculous!!

I think this post escaped it's intended thread.

Perhaps a Moderator can tow it into position?

No hull
enthusiasm destroyed

Tim has failed me, and I am beyond pissed off

He produces hulls, but not in the order he receives the orders, Defense graphics always has priority

now another summer is here-and the bushfires, so no building for 6 months I suppose, and he says he is moving to Brisbane

I too am moving, to other end of the country, and that complicates things even more

Herbie,

Considering all the work I have seen you do, making your own hull will be far less complicated that the work you have done on the superstructure.

There are several options for making hulls, and none are all that complicated. The hardest part will be getting good hull dimensions. A Table of Offsets is the most accurate way, but you can also get dimensions from a hull lines drawing.

You really didn't need Tim's hull in the first place!

Phil

PS: Your post is not part of your original IJN Kirishima thread.

Hull is probably only 10% of the effort...

Wefalck,

Herbie ordered a hull for his current project over three years ago and doesn't have it yet! We are advising him that, given the quality of his work so far, he can build his own hull - and probably do a better job!

I have been away from this forum for a while and was just checking the builds I follow.

Just want to make a point that I know Tim at Southern Cross Models and he is back on his feet after the harrowing summer!! He and his family had to evacuate 4 times with Fire getting to within 100m of his property, he came within a whisker of losing the lot...if his shed had gone up no one would be getting any of his superb hulls ever again. From what he has posted on the TF72 members forum he is getting stuck in to sorting out the back log before he moves house. Tim's biggest problem is that he is a perfectionist and if he isn't happy with it he will redo it till its right. This has caused more than a few ruffled feathers with lots of people but most of us are happy to wait. I have three of Tim's hulls that I got a couple of years ago (WOW must get cracking on building more...) a Baltimore hvy cruiser, a Anchor handling tug and a small harbour tug all are very detailed down to plate lines, strakes, etc.

Bruce

Hang in there! As others have pointed out, the majority of the work is behind you.......... she will be an immensely impressive build when completed
