What I would do, is make two rails the shape of the bridge, then feed all the stantions on to the two rails and then go round and glue the stantions in position, works for me. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Hi ARH,

thats what I thought at first, but this sounds simplier that it is. Putting those stantions on the wire is not so ease, so I decided to do it the described way. But at the end I think your way is much easier at all.

Your cast resin hawsepipe surrounds look to have turned out very well. One question - what is the material you used to make the mould from? Is it a reusable putty-like material? I've done some resin casting myself and have got fairly good results, the problem is the relatively high cost of the RTV rubber used to make the moulds, which makes it expensive when you only want to cast a few items. A reusable mould material would be very useful!.

the "mould" used here is simple plasticin. What little children use to form figures.

The professional moulding material (for lasting moulds) is silicone, which I get here:

Hi Uli ,

This is what I always do , as Our Dear Admiral says , first shaping the rails , then fit the stanchions ...

As for your "stop" , I'm in the same mood for now , "Zinnia" is collecting some dust on the top of a closet ...

You're not alone

Regards ,

Laurent

Due to your very warm encouragement, I went back to work the first time since 50 days. So I did not make very much progress, but I got back to finish the boat.

At first I took soldering lead and bended it for the anchor holes in the deck. I pressed it in plastillin and casted resin in the "casts".

it worked well! So I could glue them in place.

Then I glued the rail stays to the signaldeck of the bridge.

But as I tore in the rails some of them broke off. So thats all for now - but I will continue soon!

THANK YOU!!!!

Dear Uli "Torpedo":

It's nice to see you back!!! The building goes as superb as ever.
CIC told me... :lol_1: " Why don't you do exactly?"....and I answered her that some guys are masters, and I have to study a lot............
I say THANK YOU for sharing such wonderful modelbuilding, and I'm even learning a lot.......... :thumbs_up_1:

I did it! I removed all the stanchions and began to solder the wire. Pics will follow in a few days...

Thanks for your support and a special x-mal greeting to jimmy's CIC!

P.S. By the way B-Boats sunk a drifter ARABIS (Zinnia type) so we HAVE to get both on the pond some day...

After an unsuccessful beginning I started again.

Image

First I beaded the stanchions on the rails. Do not forget to solder the first and bend the wire behind the last, if not you collect them all from the floor... :heh:

Image

I began with the first stanchion on the portside at the ladder and went against the clock around all the way with the same procedure: Fix the stanchion first and then solder the rails.

Image
Soldering was done with "amasan" soldering-past, which went quite well.

Image

In the corners I carefully bend the wire and continued.

Image

Finally: The last two stanchions...

Image

... finished!

The bridge with the signaldeck.

This is how it will look like with the tarpaulin later.

I'm glad I did that again and think the result speaks for itself.

Again some small steps: The foredeck.

Supports at the wave-breaker.

As the casted parts had to be cut, I made a pattern.

Here are the intakes/vents on the deck.

Some questions on the plan:

What the heck are those things I marked with the red arrows?

And what kind of gauge/wheel could the blue one be?

I think they are called chain stoppers, when the anchor is up they relieve the pressure on the windlass.
