Hi Cenek, thanks for ask.
the tickness of styrene plates for me is a variety of ticknesses.
i use mainly to low structures who support the weight above 2mm. i think is a good tickness for it.
and sure make internal reinforcements in the basic box. i use 1.5 mm for styrene decks(in the case of my BIsmarck) who have many deck levels.
But if have a plate to revest this deck or wood you can use 1mm and if the revestment is from 1mm wood for example, you have final measure of 2mm(styrene with styrene plate or styrene to wood revestment.
i use mostly 1mm for range finders or wall in general and i like use so much 1.5mm too.
i use 1 mm 0.8mm or 0.5mm to revest rounded structures. sometimes i use 1mm for round structures but the inverse force to glue(when the plate want go back to natural form is very stron) so i prefer 0.8mm. In the case of the round admiral bridge plate i using 1mm.
0.5mm for circular shields in the bridge or another deck.
i was use in my KGV 1:160 mostly 1mm and some parts of 1.5 - 0.5mm and few 2mm.
you can based in this use but i think each modeller have your own system and is difficult to give you a right way.
sure i think low structures need a more tickness and when you are building above you can decrease the tickness of styrene to not affect the gravity center of model.
I use automotive paint and a product to extract the shine of this type of paint. I spray with a G3 GATTY excellent airbrush.
i recommend use the plastruct WELDENE glue - the best for me.
if you having some trouble i can help you and many modellers here are excellent with styrene work. is a long list to write but seeing the works you can understand what i am writing. i wait helping you. P.s. in the page 7 of this topic have some illustred explanations of my styrene use.
good modelling and thanks by the kind words
