Have finally got around to setting up water cooling on the Graupner 900's with a small 12v water pump normally used for PC cooling setups (specs: 240L per hour@ 12volts....cost $9.95 on ebay!! claimed operating life of 30,000hrs....we shall see!!) My water pickup's are 2 1/8th brass pipes either side approx 14cm back from the midship join these then connected to a Turnigy inline fuel filter (the type used for model planes,buggy's etc.) the pipes then go into a home made T-adapter (2x1/8th pipes into a 8mm brass pipe) which attach's to the pump via a short bit of hose, a similar adapter splits the outlet flow into two (one goes to the motor cooling coils the other will be for ESC cooling when the bitz turn up!).

Testing at home went well with reasonable flows out of the outlets after testing on 6v,9v and 12v...with 12v being the most even output from all four outlets. It was then off to the pond for a stationary cooling system test !! The water came out for 10secs and stopped!

Turns out the inline fuel filters are too fine and promptly clogged with pond scum....!! Quickly removing the filters a second run of the pump gave a good 15min test run with no blockages..

Next I will do a good long powered run and check motor Temps....

Water cooling got a test run on our club run. But need to fit a larger inlet pipe as using two small ones doesn't seem to work!!

Was back at West Lakes for some testing at a different spot...this location has an arched footbridge about 30' high in center. Had some fun...got some good pix!

Bruce you asked me about my work on my Stergy. Well tomorrow she gets wet for the first time under RC control. The first Russian is going well for the fleet review in November.
Lets hope there is a good Russian presence there and give the Nato guys a run for there money
Long Beach looks great in the shot you posted here.
Just make sure you are running and not in the dry dock.....

I got a few of the boys to bring some ships to West Lakes for a run on Dec30. Twas a beauty of a day and we had 4 ships running in formation and Scott's AWD HMAS Sydney even test fired some missiles off...

Got some work done redoing the Helo deck markings, the solid white lines are painted and rest are from Hawkgraphics 1/72 USN flight deck markings set.

Work has been very busy and I have been side tracked converting a Revell 1/72 Skipjack to RC using the CASWELL conversion parts and subdriver watertight cylinder most of the setup for this is done now I can get back to Surface ship construction!!

Those hawk graphics look perfect Bruce. After painting my markings which I'm pleased about, I think next time I'd like to try these out instead cutting out all those masks are a right pain! Also looking forward to seeing how your skipjack performs. I've never had a sub before and it seems like an easy way of going about it - cheaper alternative also.

Hey, since you're doing as much as you are, what about adding another set of Harpooons to Long Beach? Sixteen Harpoons would really be great. Another set could be set next to the current ones, man, and she would be even more of a beast!

Nah sticking with 8 'poons for the moment mate (I have been thinking about top weight once the resin 40'boats go on....they are rather weighty!!)
I will be removing the two Goalkeepers, might replace them with SeaRAM's or relocate the mk45's to that position. The ASROC mount is under construction and will have one pair of tubes raise up as the mt rotates in either direction(probably on a cam arrangement),and the VLS may relocate to the centerline of the hanger roof (like on the Burkes but with two 16cell modules instead of the 61cell).....plus working missiles my mate has done SM3's for his Hobart class AWD so I am going to do Tomahawks!! (Since all my AA missiles are from the fwd launchers all aft VLS are Tomahawks...and we are only aloud VLS (and torpedoes for subs!) by our insurance). I hope to get some more work done shortly (finish hull repairs/repaint and redo hull decals...)
