Some reflexion about :

- Hull seems to be correct, but not enough gelcoat, and she need to be adjust.
- CNC lazer cut were not really clean, some cut seems to be most burn than cut...
- Some parts missing...
- Notice assembly is very poor

Now it's time to proceed...

Each parts was sand and rectify...
Image

Build a model without any helper is not easy, I've took time to study structure and process to achieve the assembly with mora accuracy as possible...
Image

I've primed all parts, inside. The tube stand for two leds....
Image

All walls were mount and glued, I've put some putty to correct shapes...

Image

Sometimes, it need to add more putty after sanding....
Image

First structure is now build, I will put primer on it and check again...
Image

Voilà :)

Again, I need to use some evergreen to add more rigidity to the structure...
Image

A new items will be take place here, I will continue to build superstructure before add some details...
Image

Walls are in place, Instructions were very cryptic and I loosing a lot of time to understand correct order of assembly...
Image

Now, primer on those items...
Image

A lot of corrections has be made here....
Image

All items were corrected, a new pass of primer will be do...
Image

Screw received from Arkmodel... at last...
Image

Weird profile... O_o

This part of superstructure were awfull to build !

Image

A lot of putty were put to correct all faulty assembly...
Image

I'm not completly satisfy by this parts...
Image

I've add some resin on the top to place later a tube for radar rotation...
Image
Image

Mmmh... this part really is not very good...
Image

Perhaps I will need to redo it later...

Ok, time to do some modification on the hull

First, hull is not accurate at the aft where direction rod take place.
Image

This 3D preview show the differences...
Image

Then, I start to make a new parts...
Image

Hull was restraint but not very good for now... i will see that problem later...
Image

I sanded junction...
Image

I've marked for better visualization...
Image

And then, some locations need to be improved...
Image

A little view to get an idea and volume...
Image

Drinling a hole to put the new parts...
Image

Damned, big buble on the aft...
Image

Temporary place...
Image

View with reference...
Image

Settings...
Image

A lot of corrections needs...
Image

Resine and fiber were put here...
Image

Aft view...
Image

Screws are... bizarre... perhaps I will change them later...
Image

Image

Again, corrections need to be done here...
Image

A lot of things need to do here...

I've done an helper to do a propre correction of hull...
Image

I need to cut the bow to dow shape correction like Neptune done on his Udaloy on the aft...
Image

I'm waiting fournitures, so I continue to work on superstructures...
Image

There is a lot of "open space" for now, because i need to think about all functions were take place here (light, camera, motors, etc...)
Image

A lot of work need to do for better look...
Image

this part of superstructure were not really hard to do...
Image

About funnel, this is Arkmodel instructions... Not accurate !
Image

Let see another plan... mmh...
Image

Now, let see an "official" version...Image

A little sketch to have a better idea of what i will do...
Image

We can see on this picture some details...
Image

And now let's do some modifications...
Image

Here is the visible part of funnel, Steam générator will take place under the funnel...
Image

But this installation will take place later :)

Ok, then I've post all that I've done for now. Now, this forum is synchronize with the post I've originally made on ScaleSub forum. I'm apologize for the short "resumé" in english. I'm pleased to receive yur comments and advices and I will try to answer to your questions as much as I can ;)

Hello there,

welcome to the forum!

I see very similar "problems" with your build compared to the Arkmodel Udaloy. The best advice I can give you is throw out the instructions and forget that you are building a kit. Consider it a true scratch build. I only use the instructions to see which parts would belong where, afterwards I use the parts to make new, more accurate parts.

I also had missing pieces, make a list and send it to Arkmodel. They will send you a new package, most likely with different parts than the ones you need (although some of them will be what you requested also), so it's better to get a plan and build your own pieces for the missing parts.

You had more courage than me in correcting even the hull (although I doubt it's very accurate in its dimensions). Good luck with the build, I'm sure you can make a decent model out of it.

Hello Neptune, please to speak with you at last :)

I'm well aware that Arkmodel's Kit is more an "help yourself base" than a real kit like other provider can give.

Concerning the hull, I think you're right, proportions are aproximatively good, but if we dig deeper, we can see a lot of errors. I've change the aft more to have a better looking than a perfect reproduction. Indeed, the result will be more acurate but at the end it still not perfect like a total scratch-building.

I've grab a lot of photos from russian's forum (like Airbase) but I didn't have a really accurate plan for these ship. A lot of stuff provide by Arkmodel is completly false (enough than I can clearly see the difference between the original than they provide).

I will keep you inform with the building :)

Hello,

Thank you :)

This is not my first model, I've start the challenge with a Russian Typhoon Submarine TK-17 who is under way of completion :
Image

This first big achievement give me some elements of reflections ;)
In comparaison, a surface boat, look like in first view more... accessible :)

Hi Wis Welcome , I have to agree when the instructions do not tally with what you have or the parts are either incomplete or of a poor standard then, as Neptune has said build as if you a doing the model from scratch. Best of luck with your build ,

Indeed.

I've start to check some modifications/ improvement I want to do. As we can see on this photo below, there is flank stabilizator. they can be as usual with russian shipextend or retract...

Image

This a closer look of mechanism...

Image

I was thinking to do all mecanism functional but i think it's should be difficult because I don't have proper informations and tools. Perhaps I will only put functional stabilizator's rudder with inclinometer to correct the pitch of the boat when she manoeuver...

There is also an other problem, who be difficult to fix properly. As we can see, the edge of some parts of the boat are rounded...
Image

...But not the model. I will need to sand softly some edge to obtain proper profile...
Image

In other hand, there is a lot of details to put, and them could hide some flaws...
Image
Image

I've decide to finish superstructure before detailling. It might allow me to add some corrections before starting to add tiny details. Concerning propulsion, I will put a gear box 1/6 reductions like I do with my Typhoon submarine. However, to do that I need to made some structure who take place inside to support motors and servo. I'm designing actually this structure...

I also would put FPV and auto-pilot on this model, perhaps with Arduino Central Unit; I've plan to put two camera, one on command bridge and an other with a panoramic view. Of course, that mean to have reflection about how some parts of superstructure might be remove to access FPV components, that also mean to think about alimentation bus for all functionallity I desire to put on modell.

I will please to discuss with you about all that things :)

For the sanding you can use an external template. For Chaconia I used a couple of 5mm wood external frames, and glued them together. Here, since it's much smaller, you could do with a single 5mm thickness piece. You can even use styrene/plastic for it. You cut out the rounded part with the two sides of the structure on it and then put your sanding paper inside the curve. Like this you can slowly shape the angle to become a rounded angle.
I might have a picture of that device to make it more clear.

Edit, can't really find the picture, but just thought of something else. Since the angle is rather small, about 10-20cm radius in real life I estimate. You could cut a 2 or 3mm diameter tube in 4 parts longitudinally, then wrap your sanding paper on the inside and sand like that. Just make sure to have enough sanding paper on top so you can easily handle the piece. I'm not home at this moment, so can't really make one to show. I'll see if I can make a drawing this evening.

No fancy software, but I hope you see the point.
Image

So put the sanding paper inside the quarter of a the tube and wrap it around (to have a good grip. Then slowly start sanding. The other method is more or less similar except that you can have a longer side near your curve, that gives a better guidance along the sides and top of the superstructure to have the curve fitting nicely on the sides.

Neptune> Well, I get your point, I will see what I can do, but i'm afraid that structure's edges is too thinner to do properly that step...
Arh> I will do my best ;)

I've installed a small geared motor for radar rotation...
Image

It's location was temporarily secure however a small tube was put on the top of the structure to allow more smooth and secure rotation.
Image

I received some PVC profile to do some torque stiffening and correct the hull shape. That will allow to the deck to fit better with the hull form without strange and undesired gap between them
Image

That's all for this morning :)

The shipyard is closed during vacation but I'm still working from time to time for future upgrades. I received from a friend who have a small corp of CNC cutting [ RCDecoupe10 ] some parts who're taking place of those gave by Arkmodel. The base of the AK-130 turrets.

Image

As you might see, one part is not accurate (white parts) and it need some improvment. In fact, this part was too height. The overall looks great and I'm sure that will be really cool when I will set the proper height for the white piece.

I also received painting from WEM, very cool and accurate color !

I've start to work on turret...

item on the left would be fixe to the turret and those on the right on the deck...
Image

I like the look of this assembly, very rough as soviet boat... :)
Image

those assembly are nearly ready...
Image

The white piece is inaccurate, I'm working on it, but for now we can easily see the result...
Image

There is a lot of work to do on turret...

It looks as if this going to be a long build! But I think you are doing a great job. :thumbs_up_1:

Do you know where to find good detail photographs of this class? All I can find are some overall views.

Is/was there any rule or habit in painting the decks red or grey?

Regards,

Rob

Here is the new assembly for the basement

I use two different height to obtain correct patern!
Image

That looks really good, now, there is some sanding to do ;)

That's some very sharp cutting work! Nice. It will indeed be a long build, but that's what it always takes to get a good model. :heh:
