Salut à tous

This is not a Warship !!!!

This Ship was built in 1910 in Germany as PROCIDA and was acquired by the Schiaffino Company in 1925, it was sold in 1955

These are the pics I could make before my camera refused to function anymore

Very nice!! A neat way of constructing ship hull. Waiting for more updates!

Regards,
Aop.

I'm making the masts with 4mm aluminium dowel.
The dechouses and the cordage racks are made with photoetch

Setori- Quite impressive! Three questions, if you don't mind:

1) Can you tell us where you got the plans?
2) How did you fill the spaces between the frames, with balsa?
3) You tapered the aluminum for the masts by holding in drill and reducing with very rough sandpaper?

Thanks for your replies.

I stole the plans 50 years ago when I was working on the docks for the Schiaffino company, it's bad I know but I was 16 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The frames where filled with balsa, sanded and then I glued .5mm styrene

For the masts you are right !

I promise I won't tell!

Thanks for the other construction tips, something for me to incorporate in my scratchbuilding attempts.

Thank you !!!!

At that time (1968) the Schiaffino company had to cease activities between Algeria and France following the independance. They rapatriated their home office which was in Algiers. I found crates of archives in a hangar in Sete harbour and they were not sealed. I could find 5 or 6 ship plans I brought home. I was already interested in naval matters !

I already built 2 ships with these plans (15 years ago)
(Marcel Schiaffino is at 1/500 scale)

Bonjour Setori,
Votre bateau est magnifique, bonne chance !
Your ship is awesome, good luck!
You said you usually use the bread and butter method, that this is your first time you've made it with ribs. I just wanted to ask, did you find this method more challenging AND more enjoyable?
I'm looking forward to seeing your progress. I think you have given back more than you took by making these three ships, you've brought these 3 ships out of history and back to life! Congratulations!
Amicalement,
Phil

Thank you for your comments
For 1/500 scale, bread and butter is much more easier.
Concerning ribs, I made a mistake : my central longitudinal plate was only 1mm thick and was surrounded by balsa wood, and I could not pierce the 4 mm holes for the mast without drifting to the right or to the left. next time I'll use thicker center plate, or at least make it broader where I have to drill.
