Hey everyone, Figured i would share the new project I'm starting.

HMCS Winnipeg (FFH 338) is a Halifax-class frigate that has served in the Royal Canadian Navy since 1996. She is a guided-missile frigate that also carries a multipurpose helicopter [but especially for anti-submarine warfare (ASW)]. Her missile armament includes Harpoon anti-ship missiles and Evolved Sea-Sparrow anti-aircraft and anti-missile missiles. She also carries ASW torpedoes for close-in defence, and a Phalanx CIWS defence cannon. HMCS Winnipeg is the ninth ship in her class, whose design was based on the Canadian Patrol Frigate Project. HMCS Winnipeg was laid down on 20 March 1993 at Saint John Shipbuilding Company in Saint John, New Brunswick, and she was launched on 25 June 1994. This warship was officially commissioned into the Canadian Forces on 23 June 1995. HMCS Winnipeg serves on Canadian Forces MARPAC missions protecting Canada's sovereignty in the Pacific Ocean and the Arctic Ocean and in enforcing Canadian laws on its territorial oceans and Exclusive Economic Zone. HMCS Winnipeg has been deployed on missions throughout the Pacific, and also to the Indian Ocean; specifically on anti-terrorism operations in the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea, and counter-piracy operations off the coast of Somalia. Winnipeg also escorted United Nations ships carrying famine, plague, and overpopulation relief supplies to East Africa. On 12 August 2010, the frigate intercepted MV Sun Sea, a Thailand-flagged ship carrying Tamil refugees from Sri Lanka, off the coast of British Columbia.

I'm going to build the Ship as she was originally build in the 90s. My progress may be a bit slow, This is mostly do to the fact there is so much work to do on the 1:1 scale Winnipeg that I'm Posted too. This is the first project of this size that i will be doing, any advice, input, or criticism is welcomed.

I had previous started the Mast before i pick-up the Hull unfortunately as seen is the pictures my mast didn't survive my trip across to the West coast. Lucky it was the only thing that was damaged.

Hello and welcome to the board.

I am looking forward to your build as I too am planning a FFH but it is far down the list. If you search, you can find my unfinished 1/72 HMCS Assiniboine DDE 234 which is still ongoing very slowly(and an undocumented HMCS Ottawa DDE 229). I have a 280 class hull that I am going to do pre TRUMP(HMCS Huron) after Assiniboine, then maybe I can start my as yet un-named CPF.

What hull and fittings are you using?

I'm using the Hull and fittings seen are built by HMCS Models in Bradford, Ont. Everything else will probably be Scratch Built.

It has been awhile since my last update, Unfortunately work and live get in the way of model building.

I have manage to make some progress on the hull, I have attached the Sonar Dome, A-frames, and rubber posts. Nest will be adding in the Sea Bay and trying to get comfirmation whether Winnipeg was built with the stern flap or if it was added after launch.

Image

Work bench is abit messy, should probably clean it up one on this days

Image

Sonar Dome, Will be adding filler in to get the transition smoother.

Image

A-Frames and Rubber, filler will be added to smooth-en the transition from A-frames to hull.

It must be pretty cool to build the ship you're serving on, mate. Wish I had the facilities (and talent) to make 1/72 (or larger) model ships...

All the Halifax class frigates had the stern flap added during their FELEX overhauls, so no, Winnipeg did not have the flap when she was first launched.

Very Nice Picture Stevie,

I'm planning on building as build, no upgrades. Unfortunaly real life seems to have gotten a hold on me. My year has been busier than expect. Hopefully i can get back to work on the ship now that i have moved to my new place. Will post some pictures once i get the stern sealed where the shafts exit.

Let this project sit to long, really which i could of had it atleast in the water by this point.

Good day Lyall,

I am in the process of planning to build a CPF, and I would like to know if the mast that you show in the pics below was a scratch build? If not where did you find it?

Thank you for your help

Great job. Just wondering if you have finished the job (added fire control directors). Also, note that RCN ships now use the canadian flag as a Naval Jack. The Jack staff (bow), where the Naval Jack is only flown while alongside, moored or at anchor. The RCN flies the naval ensign off the stern or at the masthead when at sea
