Great project! One of the forum members was crew on NJ during her Vietnam Deployment. BB62vet, Hank Strub. A lot of info also available over in the rather long "Calling all Iowa Class" thread.

Cheers: Tom

Thank you, gentlemen!
I've made the keel ,9mm thickness of plywood.
And attach 2 panels the both side of keel for prevent bending.

Despite the breadth of the fantail, looking at the profile midships one can see why the Iowa's lacked hull volume aft and when in light condition ride very bow high as do the museum ships today. One of the fastest warships ever!

I have to say I always enjoy Song's builds and the broad variety of technique he uses.

Cheers: Tom

Very Cool! :worship_1:

Please give us lots of hull pics... the hull shape (especially the stern) is a very interesting detail for those of us who are accurizing the Trumpeter 1/200 kit.

So, I excavate on the walnut panel and insert the white color wood dn the slot.
The result is pictures.

That's a really awesome idea for conveying the differences in the deck between the WWII version and modernized version, yet retaining the natural wood. Damn Song, you keep thinking of ways to take us to school!

Song:

The helo deck is itself suspended about 18" over the original decking, with a ramp that slopes downward to the main deck level. The extension forming the slot in the middle remains at main deck level and forms a recessed slot in the helo deck ramp. I'll see if I can find a photo taken aboard Missouri of this area, which is mostly the same except for the extent of non skid.

Cheers: Tom

This shows (WIP stage) the stern helo deck and how it is raised and ramped with the peninsula area with a low bulwark.

Yes that is a correct sketch. I have a number of photos taken aboard missouri in this area and will try to find them.

Best regards. Tom

Viewing the aft end, facing to starboard. Maybe 12"? over in the CASF IOWA's we could get Cliffy to measure it?
