Complete !!!! I had to use homemade decals for the ship name, and it's UGLY !!!!! If someone has a better idea I could correct that.

t the frosted background for the letters. I learned from model railroader types to paint the surface with a gloss paint - not flat or satin. Then, after the decals are applied and dry, spray a clear flat or satin overcoat to get the desired finish. This will eliminate the frosted background for the decals. You don't have to paint the entire hull gloss black - just the places where you want the decals. The rest can be flat or satin. So if you remove the decals, paint a gloss black spot and apply the decals, you can use a clear flat or satin overcoat over the decals. However, you have less chance of obvious paint differences if you paint the entire hull with gloss colors, apply the decals, and the apply a clear flat or satin overcoat. Phil |

I should also mention decal flattening solutions - they are all called something like that. After you apply a decal, and it is still damp, you apply these solutions to "melt" the decal into the texture of the surface. They work pretty good to get decals to flow over/into louvers, rivets, cracks and such. The when the decal dries it looks like it was painted onto the textured surface. If your hull is smooth you don't need to bother with these things. CAUTION: after you apply one of these solutions you must not touch the decal with anything, not even a soft bristled brush. They will smear like wet paint. Let them dry thoroughly before applying a cover coat of paint. Phil PS: I should say I have had only moderate luck with decal softening solutions. Don't know why it sometimes works and sometimes does nothing. |

Very nice work! I will follow your new project with interest. I frequently came across this company's ships in Algiers, Oran, Marseille, I was sailing on another company at the end of the 1970s. |

Phil gives good advice for decal application. A long time ago I built some HO scale 3' narrow gauge train cars. The decal softening fluid allowed the decals to snuggle down into cracks such as between simulated boards. Testor's made two materials for use as Phil describes, "Glosscoat" and "Dullcoat". I still have a partial bottle of "dullcoat". I am not sure what alternate products might be suitable, perhaps some artists fixatives? Good luck! Tom |

Not sure if there is any RoRo ship that can be considered a good ship |
