Hello Ladies and Gentlemen !
Let me first please introduce myself because i am a new member here. My Name is Lutz and i'm from Germany so in this building report i hope you kindly excuse my English. Any correction about language , and ofcourse about the model is welcome !
Over here we have a small model-building forum with focus on radio controlled ships. We started a projekt about the 75. aniversary of the capture of U-505 and gonna build the complete hunter/killer-Group : 6 destroyers , the Abanaki-tug , maybe also the T2-tanker "Kennebec" , the escort carrier CV-E 60 "Guadalcanal" and offcourse the Sub as r/c models.
My part will be the carrier and while looking for any information i found the report of ADM here in ModelWarships.
His model is a great work and will help and inspire me alot i think. so to give something back i decided to post my building Report here too , maybe you could find something helpful too

We ordered all necessary plans , some e-books and photo-cd's from floatingdrydock and as soon as i had the plans in my Hands i started with designing the hull construction in 3D-CAD :

and covered with three layers of glass fiber epoxie (dont know the right expression in english)
brushing the inside of the hull with epoxie too and then started with the decks :

Welcome aboard!! Your english is fine for me! And you have certainly made a very, very good start. I guess CNC machine will never be in my place, as it should be expensive... but it should help keeping the hull aligned very well.

Looking forward to your next update!

Aop

Hello everybody !

Thanks for your friendly comments !

@ Aop Aur : i dont have a cnc-milling mashine myself but one of my "hand-picked gathering of maniacs" has and we help each other where we can. In German there is a word like "one hand washes the other" and thats the way our forum over here is handling the knowlegde and abillities of the users.

@ the rest : updates are about to come . This weekend we have a forum-gathering in Bavaria and i have a lot to prepare for it. But this morning i allready glued the tubes for the propeller shaft and the support into the hull. As soon as i have this ready ill show it , probably next week .

Good Morning !

While hull was almost ready to paint , after plenty of puttying and sanding , I started with the rudder , driveshaft and the supports .
The tubes and supports are made from 10x1 mm brass with sintered bronce collar bushing , shafts are 4mm stainless steel .
Tubes and supports can be greased from inside the hull through 4mm brass tubes i solded to both of them.

I think the effect of the rudder , i made it 20mm longer then scale , should be enough .
Dont wonder iff some off the technical words are kinda strange : my school english didnt include this and im using trasnlations from the web

Hello together !

As mentioned before , next I want to build the supports of the aft gun platform. The plan don't give much information and fotos are really hardly to find . Can anybody help me about this ?

Attachment:
Heck.jpg
Heck.jpg [ 119.41 KiB | Viewed 3465 times ]

That's the best one i have found, but painting makes it hard to discover details of the structure underneath the platform.
I crawled 3 or 4 times all over navsorce since i started my resaerch for this build.

Hello Folks !

Some more Things added to the hull : platforms on both sides are mounted :

All supports for the platforms are glued also and next thing to build are the tubes for the anchor chains.
Once this is done I'll install the motors, battery-holders and clutches between motors and shafts.
Cant wait to have some paint on the hull and the whole thing in water for the first time !

Edit : soon there will be a break in this building report because i am waiting for "The Escort Carrier Gambier Bay (Anatomy of the Ship)" that i have ordered in New York.
Will take some time to ship it over here but hopefully will help me with some of the details i wasn't able to identify untill now.

Hello to all and specially to Aop !

If i got it right then I'm more then 3 times older then you Aop .
I'm absolutely sure that , if you keep on building models and keep on learning , you soon will be on my level .
If You then add 1 or 2 years additional practice , you surely will be better !

I'm far away from being a real good modeler . I do my best and try to learn from my mistakes . I'm pretty sure i will never be able to build something like the divine artist here are doing in 1/700 ! I'm getting older , eyes aren't as good as they have been and it will not take too long till I start to tremble
