I'm presently working on a scratchbuild of the SS Stockholm. I thought it would go nicely with my model of the Andrea Doria. This time I built 2 stainless steel nuts into the hull. The plan here is to be able to attach the model to a base using SS bolts passing through the base. This will allow me to remove the base if I ever need to.

This is where I have got to.

Now in the sanding / filling stage. It will be a while before it's ready for painting.

Beautiful shape and detail in the forward section. All I have ever seen of this ship is the smashed bow, post collision unfortunately. Doria is at the bottom and Stockholm I think is still operating. Who would have guessed ?

Most ships have a rounded bow at fo'c'sle deck level. The Stockholm's bow ended in a sharp point ..... which probably explains why she caused such damage in the collision.

Incidentally I am building the model of the ship as originally built. At the time of the collision she had been altered somewhat as the lower part of her superstructure had been extended towards the bow.

I think she looked prettier as originally built.
