Found this photo amusing, and inspiration for a later project (supposedly, it was one of the guns on the Graf Goetzen https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Liemba)



So starting with this and this , a raid of the parts box yields this...

A 1:35th scale Tamiya 3,7cm German antitank gun, a circular deck from a salvaged Airfix Great Western and a white plastic cone that may have come from a Robert E Lee kit.

Somewhere between being removed from the sprue and being laid out for trimming, the cannon cradle base disappeared (and was replaced with an M3 Stuart turret base).

Next up was the addition of ammunition boxes, gun crew decking and shields.

Not sure what this is about ... the 1930s 37 mm anti-tank gun and the Krupp 12 cm QF gun of the 1890s had very different types of locks and the barrel construction was entirely different.

It is rather anachronistic than generic ... the type of drop-block breech used on the anti-tank gun was not invented until a decade or so later.

From the early 1870s up to WW1 or so the German navy used various variants of the double-wedge breech, while the French and the RN used segmented screws. Other navies followed one or the other designs, depending where their main suppliers or licensers were.

However, there is no space here for a review of late 19th naval artillery development ...

I think the conversion looks good. I have converted several AT guns into something that looks "close enough" for a ship model. Actually working on a river gun boat project that will do just that.

What ship is it going to sit on? Are you going to post the build here?

It's an even coin-toss on whether it'll go on a full-hull *interpretation* of the original African Queen or a water-lined, wargaming build 1880-1900 USN gunboat (based on period German lines).

Of course I'll share here, if only for the reactions.
