Well it’s time to come clean with the next scratch build and it is the new Russian OPV or corvette the Steregushchiy . Project 20380 is quite a different warship from the warships of the Soviet era in incorporating many stealth features in to the design and western build technology and practice .

The model
Having giving some thought as to the method of construction I've opted for a departure from the previous longitudinal plank on frame methods of construction I’m going to experiment with double diagonal. This method gives both light weight and a very strong hull. Using very thin timbers of only 0 .50 mm thick planks of marine ply. The first layer is applied at 40degrees from the keel then a second layer also at 40 degrees but in the opposite direction over the first layer . The only problem is having to provide for 10 or more stringers the length of the hull across and down each bulkhead. Although I have seen the results of this method I have to confess this will be my first attempt at double diagonal .
Running gear is ordered , timber ready so some cutting out can be undertaken. Reports may not be as frequent as in the past due to other contractual build commitments for the magazine .
At 1:100 scale the model measures
Scale 1:100
Length 1m 40mm
Beam 130mm
All the timbers prepared
This project has been in the planning stages for over 12 months and I have been very much looking forward to making a start . Thankfully being an OPV/corvette the hull at 1m 40mm is very manageable in my small workshop So the next job is cutting out all the bulkheads , laying the keel then into uncharted territory !!!!!
