I finished the soldering of the rails on the foredeck. The upper part is 0,2mm steel-rope and the lower part 0,3mm brass wire.

You can see the difference between wire and rope on the bow.

Here's a look at the entrance on the back of the foredeck

Image

Finally a mock-up to see how the deck will look with capstans, anchor-chain and (the still wrong) foredeck gun.

So, that's it for now. I will have to work on saturday, so I am not sure to progress this weekend...

Believe it or not - I have been in the cellar after 9 month due to a new job an too much work. Anyway. After the meeting in Ludwigslust and waiting for channel 56 to get free, I decided to buy a new remote control with 2,4 Ghz.

Image
€59 for a 4-channel remote and a 6-channel receiver are fair. I only had to add 8 AAA-accumulators and a recharger. But that is something one can always use.

Collegues gave me the advise to change my two "heatings" (Graupner Speed 400) against economic 5 anchor Igarashi-motors. But that wasn't so easy.

At first something about the remote. The quality of the material is not the same as e.g. Futaba F-14 and there is no gauge for the charge, but reverse-switches for each channel. I had to cut some plastic-noses off to get in the lightly thicker accumulators, but that was easy.

The "binding" between sender and receiver is a bit different, but quick done. Good is that the antennas - either at the remote and the receiver are very short. (See pic)

Do you have any experience with 2,4GHz remotes already?

But now to the exchange of my motors - the third!!!
The first ones were Graupner Speed 400, but a collegue mentioned they were too fast and not scale. So I bougth slower ones - only to be the lame duck on the next meeting on the pond! Wasn't really fun. So I tried to rechange them, which turned out to be quite complicated with the deck already on. But I succeeded and used the opportunity to change the screws to longer ones and added connector plugs.

But now to the actual change. At first I had to remove the Graupners.

Image

Herefor I took a flexible Screwdriver with a binder to adjust the tip. Anyone who knows a shop for smaller ones, please tell me where to buy one...

Image

It was a real torment anyhow. Then I soldered the motors with wires and plugs.

Image

Finally I managed to reinstall and connect them. I also changed the clutches to a rubber tube, which reduced the noise a bit.

Image

A little testing with both remotes Futaba F-14 50Mhz and Jamara CX 2,4 Ghz - both work well. So now I have to get on with the smoke generators in the funnels, but that ist work for another evening...

Excellent that you have found your way back to the modeliing bench!!

9 months ...? arghhhh!!!

But.... the torture of exchaning motors in a finished ( kind of) model....

I thought I had a hard time rigging on 1/700.... ( hard enough!)
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=37536

but what you have achieved.....looks like keyhole surgery!!

Tschuess

Good to see you back on the board . I see you have taken the plunge and gone for a 2.4 Ghz , wise move . I was thinking of upgrading from my F14 , but I just like the feel of that big TX. Evocative photo of your B-110 , now that is a TBD .

Of course it was dificult, but the second time it is much easier. Your rigging looks much more sophisticated.

Just started reading this build and I am very impressed. I am a fan of the WW1 and early destroyers/torpedo boats. It looks so fine on the water.

Can't wait to see more.

Indeed, Gavriil was a modified Novik class destroyer. There were several classes built for the Baltic and Black Sea fleets. In a way, B97 and the othr large Hochseeflotte destroyers were German Noviks in teh sense that they used teh machinery that the Imperial russian Navy unwisely ordered from German yards before 1914. In my opinion, although follow on classes were more heavily armed (but slower) the original Novik was unmatched for grace and elegance. Four funnels instead of three for "his" successors (In russian language, warships are male), and three shafts.

And before my good friend Jim Baumann teases me on my Novik that has been years in the building yard, yes I have resumed work on it, restoring the hull that suffered a bit from years in storage and revising the superstructure, funnel and all that stuff using my recently acquired CAD skills etc.

If you want, I will exhume WIP photographs from 2002 when I began the build and post them for those interested.
