Thanks for the comment

I did some first prints with some success. I am looking for files particularly for anchor machinery like those in plan.
If you have any info in mind would be appreciated, thanks.

I am building the cargo holds. I use styrene and bit of balsa wood.

Those look really good Mike! I like the phase in a model when you start adding detail and it begins to flesh out as a ship.

Cheers: Tom

Thanks for the comment and support Tom

While I am almost done with the cargo holds, meantime I designed some parts for 3d printing

First prints were successful in general although had failed attempts. Correct printer settings takes time to be learnt. Design online is fun though

The progress in 3d is going on. I put all things together as a preview although I will print the cranes in separate pieces.

However it seems that i prefer spend time on this and avoid to concentrate on a more challenging project. To built the deck frame, present on all cargo ships of the time instead of rail bars

Because of the curvy shape that follows the hull, I'm not sure how to design yet. And still I am worry about the overall fitting of the triangle supports to the deck. A last worry would be to find a glue for resin that won't also make a mess to the deck.
For scratchbuild this piece I face the problem of finding the proper material. Metal strip would be to thin to handle and the tiny supports too hard to be made equal. So I am worry of visible imperfections
Balsa over 1mm would be more stable and still easy to work but too thick while thinner would be very optically ideal but easy to break unles

For my current project I photo-etched these bulwark stanchions. In fact, they were made as mirror-image surface-etched parts and then soft-soldered back to back.

To avoid issues with glue-smear, one can glue them in place using the same paint as used for the bulwark and deck. Quite fragile the whole though. One can also use locating pins, but it is difficult to drill the holes at the correct places.

Great job so far. Steep learning curve!
As you can see, the framing on the real ship isn't visually perfect neither. Look at base inward tip of each frame and you'll see they aren't on a nice curved line either.
You could either use plasticard or very thin plywood. Plywood of 1mm exists, I've used it on the Chaconia bulwark as well. It does have some drawbacks, like texture, but it's quite easy to work with and still quite strong.

My APA has a similar bow bulwark. Though not perfect, the bulwark is made from Balsa, slowly sanded from each side, the outside finished to blend and match the hull, then the inside thinned slowly with sand paper. A very thin glass cloth could be applied to the outside and faired into the hull, for strength. I used paper or plasticard for the bracing though these could be printed. These actually add some strength.

Good luck with whatever you do, persistence, not a stranger, may be necessary!

Cheers: Tom

A big thanks to all members for heir suggestions

Progress must go on somehow. I found someone on FB who could design bulwarks ready to print for me. I will talk about it later

The bow desing came pretty close to model dimensions. With a heat gun i soften the resin pieces and added to the deck with epoxy putty/glue. Due to the size i had to cut the rear section in pieces. If you are interested in a resin printer i suggest to go for at least medium size. The 6" diagonal plate can be filled easily.

The person who designed my projects owns this site

https://www.endtas.com/contact-us/?...X ... 56Qyr2yL2M

It has a lot of free stuff to download. I have printed a couple of submarines model with great success. Those that are not free are still very reasonably priced. You can also donate as little as 2$. Its definately worth to visit it.

Very clever, you are using a combination of traditional and 3D which is a good introduction. Persistence pays off!

Thanks, 3d printing is actually means a lack of skills, though at least in my case

I just returned from a covid isolation week in the countryside, not much an issue, rest, mountain hike and fishing.

Now back to the project, I am working on the middle and forward sections. I design them myself as these are straight pieces. Besides with some heat applied resin can be curved without the risk of distortion like plastic. I forget to add buckles for rigging so added some with brass wire. Etch primer were used then white color for the internal section

After slow progress and piece by piece assembly all sections are into place. I painted white the internal part and grey the upper side. Externally putty was applied at joints then sanded but not primed yet. I need to do some work on the bow. The deck at the anchor area is a bit "fat" and it should be trimmed somehow to meet the slim frame. The bow is also quite sharper on the upper end like the real ship and needs to be aligned with the rest of it. Finally there are some design lines that must be deleted so frame will have a smooth finish like the rest pieces.

Santa Claus came and brought me a finished hull. I contribute a bit too.

After 3 bottles of primer the salvaged hull is saved. Its not going to be perfect neither the model will be any away.
