It's conical, max 0,9 mm.

I will post another picture with a meter.

Some examples of similar capstans, you can see the pawls on the foot like on a bicycle freewheel, to prevent it from deviating when you stop the steam engine.

I found a jet ski on the net, it's not bad, I'll probably keep it to save time as there are quite a few "service boats" to draw elsewhere.

I drew the life rafts, the supports are not finished. Plus some details like this box in the middle that could be a hydraulic oil tank for the bow thruster. I'll be more with the book maybe.

With the equipage of "water-go's" one will have to also have lounge chairs with sunning females?

My favorite is her as a historical figure at Yalta, still a relevant area for nearby ongoing world events.

Cheers: Tom

It's good to dream right now. So I prefer this more peaceful version! :cool_1:

Drawing of the deck planking today, plus some details.

I'm going to start the drawing of the two boats of the forecastle, I chose the configuration of the semi-rigid on the port side and the very nice 7 meters boat on the starboard side. I couldn't cut it

The RIB shouldn't take too long to draw, with the outboard engine.

I had to research the plastic speedboat imitation mahogany wood well done, I had only one photo at the base, but good quality, I was able to zoom in and read the brand of this beauty, it could only be Italian..!

The star, you can read the brand and the logo on the shell at the back:

Image

The configuration:

Image

It is a Colombo Super Indios of 24 feet ( 7,20 meters ) motorization: between 235 and 330 hp inboard engine. This type of boat is negotiated second hand around 100 000 euros at the very least when it is sold.

https://www.colomboboats.it/eng/default.asp

Image

I was able to get a triptych that will allow me to draw it in 3D.

I started the design of the RIB. I found a plan with a truncated bow that corresponds to what I was looking for:

http://smuggler.co.nz/currently-under-construction/

Smuggler Marine, New Zealand.

It's an inboard engine, but I'm going to modify it for an outboard.

The first drafts are going faster than expected. It will be finished tomorrow.

I need to come up with a plan for the outboard motor.

The redans are a bit big, I'll reduce them. (2)

Dear sir,

Where and how much to sign up for some personal training classes on your usage of Fusion 360? The speed and the complexity that you achieve is absolutely unbelievable.
The subject and finished product is astounding as well.

A humble amateur,

Matt

Hello Matt, thanks, you can see lot of tutorials on youtube, i have started with this guy, these explanations are very clear.

All videos: https://www.youtube.com/c/TheFusionEssentials/videos

The first i saw, 2 years ago :

https://youtu.be/whXHotDT8n4

It was a "flash!" 3D drawing, I started yesterday morning, and it's almost finished, I had set myself two days for this RIB.

I could have gone on for days to refine the engine which is very simplified here, but this RIB is going to be printed very small (70 mm long), so it will be enough.

But nothing prevents to come back to this design later, for a bigger and more detailed version. This is the advantage of the system.

I still have to draw the propeller. Then I will be able to integrate it into the Delphine design.

In situation.

I would place it on the starboard side, I usually display my ships on the port side. On the port side, there will be the speedboat, more visually interesting.

Image

I have started the design of the Colombo launch. I don't have a lot of info about the plan, fortunately there are pictures!

It is just stunning with what speed you seem to churn out these digital models

Speaking speed, a max vitesse of 38 knots is pretty decent! More fun to drive the boat rather than be the rich guy riding in back. I suppose if I was President I'd want to fly Airforce One, at least for takeoff and landing.

Nice work! Tom

After a few days of "rest", the design is resumed, hull strakes, seats, cockpit, dashboard.

The hull is finished.

Now I'm going to work on the Z-drive base. I chose a Volvo Aquamatic 280 duo-prop (two counter-rotating propellers).

A base that I know well, I had two launches that were equipped with this base and the indestructible AQAD41 200hp 6 cylinder turbo diesel engine. I maintained them myself.

The hull:

Looks like.

This runabout is a fairly recent model, in the neo-retro style but made of polyester, so easier to maintain, less heavy than a wooden launch like a Riva probably (and probably cheaper too). Top speed 38 knots.

For example this one was built in 2000:

https://www.botentekoop.com/fr/bateau/2 ... l-7937634/

The Dodge's (father Horace and Delphine, his daughter) were passionate about fast motorboat racing (Runabout). The Delphine among its many tenders over the years had quite a few speedboats.

"A runabout boat is a runabout - sea roadster type of motorboat, for boating, water skiing or boat racing..."
Wiki.

I think this Colombo is on board for the nod to the history of the vessel and its first owner.

Extract of photos from the very nice book of the Delphine that I have just acquired, this book is very complete, great work of the author, it is a great help to me:

This boat is finished as well as its Z-drive duo-prop base, I will be able to continue the ship.

Quick integration, I have the bers to do, it's not long.

Then I move on to the chain stoppers, which are very special on this ship. I found a partial picture in the Delphine book.

The boat is a very nice model in itself. Delphine is looking good!

Want one of those runabouts - even though it is plastic and not nice mahagony - I mean in 1:1 scale

Nice progress in the 1:100 plastic version :thumbs_up_1:

Thanks!

@wefalck

Delphine VI réplica, superbe !

More here: https://newenglandboatandmotor.com/delphine-vi

Quote:
DELPHINE VI is one of the most famous and beautiful of Horace Dodge’s racers. She was designed by George Crouch in 1925 when she was built as IMPSHI for Dodge to race in the Gold Cup Championship. She raced many years under various names and she carried all of the great racing engines that money could buy.

Packard powered the first year. In 1926 and 1927 she was powered with a 24 cylinder Duesenberg built from 3 Indianapolis straight-8 racing engines. She was retired for a couple years and then in 1932, she was pulled from storage, spruced up and re-powered with a Harry Miller V16 created with 4 Indy engine blocks on a common crankcase.

She was extremely fast and clocked speeds in excess of 70MPH. Driven by Frietoff Erickson. She went on the race under the name HORNET in 1934 when she was wrecked as she ran into a battleship. Dodge gathered up her shattered bones and shipped her back to Detroit and rebuilt her, rechristening her as his beloved IMPSHI in 1936.

This historic reconstruction was built from original plans and faithfully brings DELPHINE VI back to life. She has been completed up to a point where she is now ready for wiring and engine installation. Power is a brand new Marine Power 500hp 502 V8. DELPHINE VI is anxiously awaiting a new owner. This is a great value at $200,000.

Photo taken in Belgium during its major restoration in 2000.

This is the only photo I have found so far showing the stoppers. They are very particular, it is for my part the first time I see them of this type.

Mechanically one can think that they are equipped with a chain tension damper. There are two probable reasons for this, they prevent too much tension on the chain when there is wind or sea or both. It can prevent the anchor from slipping on the bottom for the same reason if the vessel tends to gyrate on its mooring point, normally the weight of the chain is sufficient if enough links are set.

The general rule is at least 3 times the height of the water if the weather is good and the bottom has a good hold. It is important to remember that the length of chain in the water accounts for 50% of the anchor weight, the other 50% being the anchor weight.

It remains a very complicated system and difficult to maintain because of the salty environment. This ship was built on the Great Lakes, this system was perhaps more suitable for this fresh water environment. A guess.

Behind the stopper, two arms can be seen, probably to reinforce the system, and distribute the effort on the deck.

Yes, interesting arrangement. It's a pity one can't see the whole gadget. It seems to be a similar idea as the springs people put into the mooring ropes of their boats to reduce the jerking and hence the strain on the cleats.

Pascal,

I think your chain dampener idea is a good guess. The springs would prevent sudden shocks, caused by pulling on the chain and anchor while moored, from being transferred to the vessel. When anchored in a strong current or strong winds the ship can be jerked around a bit. Not only would it reduce stress on the chain, anchor and anchor gear, it would also cause the vessel to ride more smoothly for the comfort of the passengers.

The two arms behind the stopper were probably used when the anchor was hoisted full up. At that point you wouldn't want the anchor bouncing up and down so the arms would prevent the stoppers from moving.

Phil
