Back to the SS Delphine project for 7 days:

Drawing of the main deck aft ventilators, capstan, bar service, and the spare wheel helm.

Remaining is the Brooklynn-made telephone to communicate with the engine and bridge, and the compass.

Delphine Dodge, Speed-boat champion at that time.

Different configuration of the rear main deck:

When new in 1921. The compass is mounted on the steering mechanism.

Image

In 1943, when the ship is called Dauntless. We see the course repeater, and devices on the right side of the helm

I don't have the date of setting up the current configuration, can't find any pictures in the Delphine book.

Drawing of the compass and phone.

very good--so much detective work to establish the details...

and almost all of it hidden by the deck above... :wave_1:

Indeed Jim! But we don't shy away from almost anything!

Drawings of the "dunette" deck stanchions.

I have started to draw the fittings for the poop deck. There are still doors, ventilation ducts, lighting to be added.

Pascal, your work is stunning. I so want to dig into some scratch builds via drawing and printing. I use Rhino 7 and 3D print all day every day at my day-job, but as an architectural model maker, it's all furniture, stair cases, facade details, etc. So, until things slow down at work, and I finish my client obligations at home (model railroad fittings and the like), I'll live vicariously through your wonderful work.

Thanks Devin, I tried Rhino for 3 months as a trial period recently, but I was not seduced by the program. It's a very good program, but it's less convenient for me.

The advantage of Rhino is its almost unlimited license.

With Fusion360 I have a yearly subscription, but then, I don't buy any more models, so the budget is the same, especially in the 1:100 / 1:200 scales, more expensive ship.

I've been using Rhino for nearly 10 years now, so I'm pretty heavily invested in it. I got a student license back then, and have been able to upgrade it every few years at a discount.

The day's progress, I sat at the bar after finishing the portholes, scuttles, doors and lighting.

I made good progress on the poop deck bar.

Tomorrow I'll be back on the battleship Bretagne project for a week:

Drawing the bridge slats, it's long. Installation of the handrails. Positioning the back stairs.

A picture of the book:

The front and rear side thrusters were installed in 1999, during the major restoration at the Ostend yard.

I am still trying to come to terms with the aesthetic challenge of mixing 'classic' with 'modern', but the details are really exemplary !

Thanks! :thumbs_up_1:

I haven't had time to make much progress with the drawing, lots of other activities at the moment, mechanics on old cars, circuit...

Installing the railings, the back stairs.
