Hello everybody !

I present you my new project which will in fact be double!

My choice was on the Landing Craft Infantry, little known but indispensable ships during the landings starting with that of Normandy!
These are not spectacular ships but simple and efficient and this choice was dictated by the Duty of Memory because going regularly to the festivities of D-Day, I tell myself that we must not forget these GI’s died for our freedom.

So I’m going to do an American LCI and an English LCI, Canadian more precisely, the two models being very similar, the American model being distinguished by a higher gateway:





From what I understand it is that the guys were badly shaken in the open sea!!!

These are vessels of the first type of LCI, with a central square superstructure and ramps on both sides of the bow. Then the superstructures were modified to be round, and with a door opening at the bow for the latest models. But the hull was always the same.





It should be noted that France recovered several of these LCI and used them during the Indochina war.

This is the beginning of the presentation, a little more detail on the selected numbers to come.

The two models will be at 1/35e scale. The American model will be static, but the Canadian model will be a RC model

I will give you some details on the two numbers chosen, the U.S. LCI-85 and the Canadian LCI-250.

LCI-85 had a tragic destiny because it jumped on a mine in front of Omaha beach on June 6, 44.

On the latter, you will notice the censorship that masked the faces of the dead or injured, as well as the body of a GI’s "hidden" between the two "garbage cans" and other materials.

Sorry for the brutality of this last photo but that’s what moved me and insisted on embarking on this new project.
I think sometimes we should stop complaining when we realize what happened in our history and all those soldiers from every country who came to fight and die for our freedom.

So a little more fun for the Canadian LCI-250!



It’s his decoration with his shark face that attracted me to make this one, as a model sailing I thought it would be fun to see!!

Outstanding historical project, and a great tribute to the fallen, and those who made it home.

I suspect that the 'flesh' in that picture is actually mostly cloth bandage material (I see some compression bandages and field dressings - interestingly, we still use similar field dressings in the military today.) Yes, there is some other residue there, and I do not wish to continue to ponder what it was like being there that day, or in the aftermath having to clean things up. My time in uniform only saw me dealing with the 'recovery operations' a handful of times. Suffice to say, in once instance, I didn't eat anything that came out of our ship's potatoe locker for a few months. (Temporarily used as a morgue.)

I look forward to your build. Will it be 'classic' building - sheet styrene/wood with frame construction, or are you one of the 3D printing types?

This a classic building with frame construction but only with plastic, no wood this time, and actually there will be 3D construction for fittings !
I don’t have the 3D printer yet but it’s coming and I’ve been studying how to draw in 3D for three months!!!

I have the plans of Floating drydock LCI-24 and especially the excellent plan of the LCI 125 of Modelarstwo Okretowe and many documents and plans of US Navy equipment

AlainFR, there have been some fantastic LCI-L builds on this site. I've saved the links for future reference once I get around to building the Lindberg kit
in my stash one of these days.

Hello everybody,

I revive this post before it sinks completely!
You must think this guy doesn’t work a lot!

So I had to tame the Fusion 360 software, and it wasn’t easy at all at first!
But now I’m not too bad!

So here is a first big work of fittings, it is the realization of the winch.
I based myself on the plan but rather succinct finally, and so I extrapolated quite a bit from the photo :







So here is the modelling 3D :









Then it will not be printed like this at once, it is subdivided into 20 pieces more the base.

The LCI-85 was painted blue, but I do not know the reference of this blue, so you can inform me about it and give me if possible a reference in Tamiya color if possible, thank you in advance!

You are quite right, I had not paid attention!
I will rectify my parts simply with plasticard I think.

For proportions, it is not easy to work only from photos, there are inevitably inaccuracies
After I think it’s not so bad anyway!

Very nice work on the winch and parts. The model I did of my Dad's ARL had quite a few winches and I am familiar with attempting to work from photos. For instance having to scale from things like a sailor of indeterminate height. More reliable;e are things such as lifelines but the issue of distance and perspective always arise.
