G'day Gavin, :woo_hoo: :woo_hoo: those pictures are looking just great, the detailed pictures of how you made the Amour looked good to, hope somewhere there is someone who is getting good news from the way you made the rivet marks, the wheel house for the Jan 62 model looks great, that girl is really taking shape, looking forward to giving you a helping hand very soon.

Well, well, well (three holes in the ground)
Done a wee bit this weekend... Using a new glue to glue on the aluminium, takes a lot longer, but once set, the items glued do not come apart!!!!
This pic shows the first section of deck done all the way to the bow and around the later wheelhouse. Must say, it is one very fiddly job.

There is still an amount to do on the bow of the early version, but getting there. Have made the forward removable decks for both and they are fitted, will be able to start plating soon. Will need to drink some more "Mother" so I can get some raw materials
As can be seen in the pics and as was stated earlier, I am now using a new glue put out by Aquadhere, it is polyurethane based. A word of caution if you are going to use this stuff, practice a few times on scraps, this stuff is not set and forget, you will need to weight it down and clean up a few time with metho to keep everything clean, but don't get me wrong, the results are worth it. Bye for now and hope to update again soon.

G'day all, hope the world is treating you well. Been a tad distracted so appologies for the lack of work done, have pressed another 300 plates, this included the cutting up of the cans, cuting the strips and then pressing the rivets, took a grand total of 3 hours with 2 cups of coffee made and consumed in there as well. So doesn't take too long. Realised that I needed to get the turrets sorted out and being lazy at heart have been on the hunt for something that would be as close to the right size needed as possible. A Picture tells the story so here goes....

As can be seen, a baby formula can was the base of choice. The difference between the can and the final size of turret needed was 4 mm, so with a layer of 1.5mm balsa and then the layer of aluminium plating that will go on, there will be a very close match (yet to make the die up for pressing those plates)
The mounting under the turret will be a 3" lazy susan bearing. I will need to make all the bits up that will drive the turret, but this is what it will turn on... very cheap to buy, less than AUS$5.00 .

The height of the top of turret is correct but it looks big because there is no deck around it yet...

just like the real vessel, the turret will penetrate the deck. Once the turret exterior is done, I will be able to finish off the deck. Am looking to build all the componentry for the interior of the turret outside of the turret and then slide it all in (Guns will be later). Just in the process of brainstorming with the Bombardier as to different options for some of the deck fittings. Never dull
Bye for now, be safe.

G'day All,
Well, been a busy couple of weeks, but finally made it back to the dry dock... (well, wet dock for me, love my Black Douglas, helps me think  )
Decided to get the turrets further along and thanks to Bombardier for all his assistance yesterday, we have now got a couple of turrets about half way along in their construction. All the outer armour is on, the timber work on the inside is nearly all done, (the Gun slides and cannonball racks need to be finished and glued in) then the last but of aluminium capping in the top of the turret then on to the brass work in the top of the turret and the building of the Guns themselves. Here are some pics of the progress so far....

Also, there a few deck fittings starting to make their way into place. She will look a lot better when all the deck armour is on, that is by far the slowest job!!!
Here is a view of the drive motor mounted under the turret.

My apologies for the pics, They don't do the job justice. If anyone wants clarification or more pics of how I did the Drive for the turret, let me know.
Bye for now...

G'day Russ,
Oh yes, more often then I care to think about. I always try the hard way first and then discover the easier version for the second one... That is why they are at about the same point of construction. The Bombadier and I are co-conspiritors for them, we bounce ideas off each other (over a few drams) and then go with what we think is right.
I also have a Tug (The "Anteo") on the slipway, this model is for the boss, so there are actually 3 on the go at once. (That is why the lubrication is needed!!!!)

:woo_hoo: Well there they are, well one of them in the picture, lol, those Bollards are looking sweet, must get with you and take some more pictures and have a look at the Gun Ports you drilled, this is looking great just a few little pieces done here and there and they take on a hole new shape and look, the good part is the official wetting of these two ladies is drawing closer and closer :thumbs_up_1:

:wave_1: G'day Gavin well I have checked my fishing tackle and found the split shot sinkers are the best for size to use as the Cannon balls in the 2 racks, look forward to our next working bee, I'll work on these 2 racks if you'd like and get them ready for fitting, should look really good when finished :thumbs_up_1: :woo_hoo:

G'day all,
Finally had a couple of days to do something on the girls, namely some deck plating and the gun rails in the turrets. I will let the pics tell the story...

So, as can be seen, they are finally getting closer to the end of a significant amount of aluminium plating!!! :woo_hoo:

Hey Ron (aka Admiral),
Not wrong, if I had my time over, I would have tended to make a longer strip of plate with the stamped rivets in them and then just scored the joins in the plates, the smaller pieces and all the joins are a lot harder to keep flat as the glue dries and has caused a lot of extra work in the clean up and re glueing corners. I am generally happy with the results, but would recommend anyone else who wanted to use aluminium to try to get sheets of the Litho plate that you use. We have a Non ferrous metal supplier in Brisbane who can supply the appropriate guages, but of course, there is a cost. After this I think I have learned that a little cost may save cost to the project in the long run and give a finer result.

Buy the way, like your latest addition to the scale Navy, The USS Helena, is looking sensational!!!!

Hi, Yes the longer plates do make life a lot easier, I slightly curve them where needed, on the rounds I roll them round a thick brush handle, it help when laying the plates, they tend to sit down nicely. :heh: :heh: :thumbs_up_1:

Very effective look !!

They are certainly... errr large models !! ( compared to my tint boatlets!)

Good innovative idea with the rivet press--the effect is reassuringly metal-like!

G'day Jim,
Just went to your link for the builds in progress.... 102 models!!!!!!
You must have a very big drydock for all of them.
Green is the colour of envy isn't it?
Thanks for the encouragment Gents, it is always a boost considering looking at your projects and trying to emulate the fine details you are able to achieve. I regularly troll many of the other models, including most of the completed ones, and discover finer points I missed previously. It is turning into quite an instructional library.

G'day Jim,
Oops, I need to learn to count, there are 106!!!!!!
The look from my boss when I asked if I could have that many was a sight to behold. I have a distinct impression it was a no.
Am looking forward to finishing these two girls and the Anteo (the bosses boat) then get onto the next two, the HMS Hood and the KM Bismarck, both in 1:72.... :thumbs_up_1: will be fun indeed!!!

Awesome build, mate. Please more pictures. Where'd you get your plans? This is s static model? With a motorized turret? Amazing!
Why build one when you can build two at twice the price, eh.

Hi,

great modeling! :thumbs_up_1:

I post some pictures on behalf of Jürgen Waldmann showing his 1/100th scale model. It is completely built of brass sheet (0.2 – 0.6 mm) and PCB.

Hope you´ll like it!
