Some glaze em' and some don't! Personally I would use some clear sheet to glaze them. The some 1mm or so clear styrene should do the job...
Are you going to do any interior detail in the bridge?? Its a pain but looks good when lit up!

Cheers Bruce :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

I came across an old pic of the interior of California's bridge and got a bit carried away with her interior.....!! Still some other details (and some crew....) to go in before I paint it and permanently glue it into place....

Cheers Bruce

PS looking fwd to having California and Varyag tied up alongside the " unfinished cruiser wharf " at the TF72 Regatta in November!!

G'day Andrew!

Very useful pics of her bridge mate!! Now you know what colours to do!! At least her ceiling is tidy Cali's has all sorts of headknockers!

The seats are the discarded troop seating out of an italeri UH60 Blackhawk kit (being converted to MH60S Knighthawk..). They are normally 3 seats joined as on piece I just sliced em up with a sharp blade and then made up pedestal bases or glued to wall....

Cheers Bruce

Well, a little bit more progress. Having had a real good go at trying to make my own RB6000 launchers, I decided to relent and use a "ready made" set. :sorry:

I contacted Jonathan Evans in Canada and I managed to get two launchers off him - and very nice they are too :worship_1:

Here are some pics of the launchers. You will see that I have done something that some might find odd. The Stbd launcher is in the ready position, slightly towed outboard. The port launcher is in the reload postition. Thought I would try to show something a bit different and something to talk about at displays - I hope.

The parts

Assembled with the base plate and strengthening flanges cut

Assembled and painted

Port side - sorry about the focus - or lack of it. :Oops_1:

Image

Front "shelf" in the bridge - difficult to see but the front windows have their glazing in place - not fixed yet, that will happen afer all of the painting.

Hi Guys,

A few very rare hours inthe dockyard this weekend :woo_hoo:

Image

Bridgewalls and the internal dashboard now complete. The engine control islands still to come

Image

Managed to salvage this "pop up" work stand from work (originally used to transport an Unmanned Air Vehicle) You can see th emods to the frame that I will make. The whole fram will be fitted on a wooden wheeled base.

Well All,

Having finally got back to Aus, and with some time to begin work on my Varyag again, I go back in to the shed only to find that the bridge wing deck has all warped and bent upwards :cry_3: - so back to the drawing board for my bridge deck and wings. So I am looking for advice.

My original bridge deck was 1mm thick styrene. So for the new deck I am considering using 2mm thick styrene or perhaps 2mm ply if I can find some - opinions?

Also I will change the construction method - last time I fixed the upper superstructure to the deck piece (which is one large piece) first and had not yet fixed the deck to the lower structure. This time I will fix the deck to the lower structure first, hopefully making the base structure more stable before fixing the upper structure. Picture to come soon, but any advice would be welcome.

Andrew

Go with 2mm styrene mate it will do the job, plus keeps all your materials same (it will all expand at similar rates) CALIFORNIA has 2mm styrene for all superstructure decks and walls and have had no issues even after some 35+deg C days.

Keep at it!! :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Cheers Bruce

Hello all, back from an extended absence due to all sorts of issues that I will not bore you all with.

When I returned to the dockyard the bridge wing decks had bucckled and I had to remake most of the bridge superstructure - managed to slavage the bridge walls and the majority of the foremast structure.

Anyway, the following pictures show the current state of the superstructure. The red LEDs woek and will, hopfully simulate a very low red light glow in the bridge during night runs.

Next step is to complete the 8 remaining missile tuvbes, then paint and secure the missile batteries to the supeestructure. After that I hope to complete the hull finish and have her ready for a sail day in the Roma Steet park in Brisbane city. Enjoy.

Hi Andrew very impressive . It's good to see you pressing on look forward to seeing more of your Slava build as and when . Was it the temperature that effected the bridge wings. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Thanks for looking in Dave. I think heart did play a part, but Ialso think that I probably over stressed the plastics with too much filer and tension (trying to make a bad joint into a good joint  The construction is a lot better since i had to rebuild... :thumbs_up_1:
