I am making a fiberglass hull of the IJN Heavy Cruiser Mogami for a friend .He will be making the late war seaplane carrier version .Here are a few photos of what he and I have done so far .

I made the plug the same way as the T3 Tanker .

Hi Richard Great subject and superb hull . In photos these IJN cruisers always seemed to be racing through the water with a very pronounced bow wave . There is a model maker over here that builds only IJN warships .His latest model is the Tone at 1:96 scale.

Good to see you have started you hull . :thumbs_up_1:
Clamped plywood pieces , backed with resin and matt along the plug for the bolts . I use bolts with shoulders so they act as guide dowles at the same time .

Image

Trimed the excess matt on one side .This is the thickness of six layers of matt .

Image

Seperated the mold to remove the plug .

Image

Bolted the mold back together .

Image
Image

Note torpedo blister .

Image

The O-1 level is part of the mold .Hulls will have this level already there .

Image

It has to sit a few days then polished with release wax .Then the first IJN Cruiser hull . :heh:

Washed the mold then waxed it with hi temp release wax .

Image

Clamped the mold halfs to the table to polish with release wax .

Image

Bolted the mold together then sprayed on two coats of PVA .

Image

Sprayed on about 25 mils of gel coat

Image

Laid up the hull

Image

Image

Image

Have to let it sit in the mold for five days

This is the first and only IJN Heavy Cruiser made in USA .
