Thanks for posting the Helena and Worcester Hull lines. I have been staring at the Cleveland lines for a long time and was interested in the differences between the preceding and following classes. Here is my drawing of the hull lines for the Cleveland CL-55 for comparison. The tumble home is quite pronounced.

Note: this is a bit nit-picking, but these drawings are of station lines and not frames. On the Cleveland the 40 stations were 15 feet apart, and were only used for creating the drawings. The ship was constructed on 150 frames that were 4 feet apart. Below the water line the ship had another 150 half frames at 2 foot spacing between the full frames.

Of course, for modeling purposes the hull frames are usually created from the station lines.

A word of caution about the triple 6"/47 turrets shown on my web page. The vents on the back of the turret changed quite a bit from the Helena class, Cleveland class and the modified Cleveland CLGs (shown on my page). There were also a lot of small detail differences from ship to ship, especially the presence/absence of ladders on the turret face.

Phil

Hi Phil, Thanks for that, there,s a big diffence in the rib shapes, I am not useing the Morskie ribs but the ones that came from the National Archives, they are more accurate, having said that the Morskie one,s are not bad at all.

As you can see in my rib shapes Helena had a pronounced knuckel.

Yes Richard, I purchased an 8ft x 4ft sheet of good grade plywood 3/8 th of an inch thick, also 7ft of 1 inch x 3/8 slightly harder timber, close grained, and my glue, £20-00 or $30. :heh: :heh:

A hammer and a chisel never loose their place as tools of the master craftsman... :heh: :heh:

What kind of wood did you use for the bow section? Any particular reason for that?

Looking forward to more progress... :woo_hoo: :woo_hoo:

Hi Everyone, Before I get into the build there are a few things I would like to say.

This will not be a glass case job, it will be radio controlled, so things have to be stronger but light at the same time.

It has to be water proof, the props will be working.

I will be taking lots of photo,s as a step by step, this will cut down on the amount of typing :heh:

Just laterly im hearing people say, you can not stop a model from leaning over in a turn, you can if it is built right in the first place, and balanced correctly.

Im not the best of builders, but if you follow my instructions you can have a nicely built model.

I hope I do justice to USS HELENA. CL50 :wave_1: :wave_1:

Ron,
i'm getting to the stage where i want to play with my ships as well as build them.
I have a 1/72 scale hull of the RN Castle class patrol ship sitting in my loft awaiting my attention.(christmas present)
As you know i make masters then castings of 1/700 ships for finewaterline but really need a leg up when it comes to R/C.
The basics of R/C is what scares me the most, i have to do a first R/C build, two screw two rudder build on a limited buget,
and need good advice. I will be following this :help_1: :please:
