Hello,

After advice from several builders I decided to add some matts today anyway. I could press dents in the hull really easily at places so it needed some additional strength. Some filler on top of it and sanding it smooth and I'm happy

Image

Something very cool, I recieved some micro processors which help turn on the onboard lighting in a very realistic manner.

More lighting pictures to follow!

Hey all!

More pictures
It's a lot of hard and monotonous work sanding and filling the hull smooth but she's starting to look really good and I want the finish to be absolutely perfect. The last step is to spray the hull with some white paint and keep on sanding untill there is absolutely no paint left to see:

Image

I've also made a tool to correctly shape the end of the bowthruster tunnels. Fortunately I have very exact drawings of the shape of the hull here. Preparations are aso made to make the seawater chests and bilgekeels. I'm still deciding whether the seachests will actually be openings in the hull or only thin gratings glued to the outside hull.

Image

Image

The enclosed bulwarks are constructed on a flat surface first before fitting them onto the hull. This way I can attach all stiffeners and details while having easy acces:

Image

More progress later!

Kind regards,
Pim

Hi there!

Here I'm drilling the portholes, after the hull is painted a piece of plexi will be fitted inside:
Image

I also added all of the freeing ports and recesses for the fairleads that are placed later on:

Almost ready for painting, adding the sheerstrake with thin sheets of cardboard:

More pictures of the painted hull soon!!

Hi Pim This is interesting work .Marking and drilling out the port holes is always one where great care is required , the results are looking good.

Thanks! It takes some practice to work with but it gives me very satisfactory results with very few mess and at very low cost.. :thumbs_up_1:

After a week of holiday I finally had some time to make myself a decent room for my hobby which I'd been been planning for a very longggg time..

And starting the paint job on the hull, because this is very time consuming.
Every time you think you're finished sanding and can start to paint, some more spots are found that still need some attention

All hull openings are taped (doors in the hull will be painted seperately) and started painting:

And the result:

Information on the shape of the headboxes above the thrusters is still a bit vague so I made them semi-removable with a bolt throught the hull. For a good fit onto the hull the whole thing was shaped with putty with a sheet of paper in between. Later on this was removed:

Making the grids for the seachests using the etching technique on a piece of brass. I'm an amateur in this but whoa.. beautifull stuff can be fabricated using this method! I'll be using it a lot in the future, the bridgewindows for example :thumbs_up_1: .

And than comes the time to drill some holes in your beautifull hull... :heh:

Hi Pim,

I read something about that you wanted to hear experiences with the Graupner Speed 500 E engine.
I got 2 off them in Well Enhancer, and they run pretty good.
They give the right amount of power, whilst not drawing all too much power from the batteries.
I run a full day with 2 Speed 500 E's, both on 12V from a 12V 7Ah battery.
I had a few more expensive engines before, but these are still running, and 1 of them is over 3 years old now.
The second 1 was bought later on, when the first 1 moved from the Josse I to the Well Enhancer.
The oldest once appeared to be quieting it's job, but a few drops of oil on the shaft and a little help with starting later on worked well to revive the engine.
I once tried Johnson engine's, which on paper should be more powerful, but they gave me half the speed and just a fraction of the power the Speed 500 E's gave me.
That brings me to the conclusion that Speed 500 E's are reliable, and a good choice if you want to run all day long.

Greetings Josse

Hi Jesse,

That's correct, in deciding what motors to use I asked around for some experience.
But I tried ut some Speed 500E's and they are much to noisy. Also, I was having trouble placing the engines in the evry low aftpart of the ship. Now I'm trying to use brushless engines and LIPO accu's instead because of there efficiency, small size and qiuet operation.

Hi guys,

A little update.
Some break from messing up the hull, I could'nt wait to finish the cargo deck with some sidewalls.
Fitted some lighting behind and after painting, this it what it looks like for now:

I glued several T-bars to the deck and when finished and painted, wooden planks will be fitted to look like the real thing:

Bowthruster, will be fitted with a different propeller:

Yeah an update finally!

I finished my thrusters with a totally new design using brass for the gearing and polystyrene for the housing:
Image

The tunnels were made by a friend of mine in his lathe:
Image

And the result:
Image

Image

And on the inside the turning servo and brushless motor:
Image

I also finished the seachest-inlet grids. They are photo-etched out of brass:
Image

Image

Image

Image

And bowthruster grills, made out of brass and polystyrene:
Image

Image

And the TL-lighting beneath the deck in the cargo-area:
Image

Image

Image

And an overall view:

I've also made a building board of wood and I started the superstructure now. Within a month or so I'll have the first seatrials.

Hello all,

I have succeeded in modifying the transmitter to turn the thrusters 360 degrees.
I mounted the stick on a bearing and fitted a set of gearings driving a potentiometer through a 1:4 ratio.
This way when the stick turns 360 the pot turns 90.
Inside the boat there is a 4:1 gearing on a servo as well which turns the thrusters.

I will also fit a switch using the schematic below, turning the two seperate sticks on the transmitter into one for smoother sailing when not in port manoevring:

The bowthrusters (30 mm) are also ready for running:
Image

Image

And I started building the deckhouse with all of it's corners using cardboard and a decent drawing made on the computer:

Kind regards,
Pim

Thanks Dave, Norbert,

A lot of progress is finally showing with final layers of paint and the superstructure is starting to look like the real thing.
