Wait, what was the answer to the first question?
Portions of Kentucky went into service in at least three commissioned ships.

The very first question was Kearsarge for active ships and Oregon for inactive ships still serving. The answer for this question is Kentucky, with a significant portion (her bow) placed on the Wisconsin after Wisconsin damaged her bow in a collision. Leading to sailor calling her the Wis-Key

Last two questions for tonight.

1. What is the average speed of a laden Swallow.

2. What is the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything?

:)

And her boilers + Turbines were fit to the AOEs Sacramento & Camden.

In what sense? Length, beam, draft, capacity or displacement?

One of the sectional floating drydocks is probably what you're after....

Flooded or unflooded?

I dispute the classification of floating docks as "ships".

The candidates would be either one of the Iowa class BB or one of the Lexington class CV. I believe Lexington class CV is just a bit longer than the Iowa class BB, but displace subtantially less. So I am puzzled by the the notion that one ship holds the title in both displacement and length.

The only ship that might qualify for both displacement and length would be a Midway class carrier, but that wasn't commissioned until after the war.

The only "ships" substantially larger than the Iowa/Lexington classes, and was actually in USN possession, would be the Normandie.

Did I get it?

BTW, bring up Normandie is not fair. Thinking about her fate still traumatizes me.

Com'on, Guys.

You should recall, Werner labelled the shelling of a West coast oil refinery by a Japanese sub the act of a disgruntled former employee.

I do not know which, if any, union the skipper had belonged to.

Bet it wasn't put to a vote. :lol_spit_1:

I think he was a management trainee.

A Japanese submarine fires 25 5-inch shells at the Bankline Oil Refinery near Ellwood, California. The attack caused no casualties and negligible damage to the facility. The US Army and Navy begin an immediate hunt for the submarine.
