This is an interesting story. Thanks for posting.

Apart from the story itself, the most notable part of the article is the repeated hope that the wreck of Cyclops may be discovered. This in light of other recent discoveries.

It seems that most of the recent discoveries of WW2 wrecks, etc... were of ships lost at sea at more or less known locations or while sailing on a relatively well known course.

If Cyclops is ever found, it will be by pure luck.

Jack

The sister ship of the Cyclops was the USS Jupiter which was converted to become the USS Langley, CV-1.

By the time the navy gradually realized that Cyclops was missing, a long time has passed since her overdue. A similiar ship called Jason(AC-12) was discovered to have serious corrosion to her keel caused by frequent handling of manganese ore. If Cyclops suddenly buckled and eventually split and sank, Yes it is definitely gonna need a lot of pure luck instead of reseach and dead reckoning to find her.
