The cruiser Moskva's sinking is a "wake-up call" to powerful navies like those of the US and UK.

Ukraine showed a weaker adversary doesn't need advanced capabilities to neutralize powerful warships.

"It only takes one missile to essentially sink or at least mission-kill a ship," a naval expert said.

The final image of the guided missile cruiser named for Russia's capital is wretched: a ship devoid of its crew listing ominously to port, black smoke obscuring its superstructure and the fearsome missiles on its deck.

The Moskva, the Black Sea flagship, sank not long after.

One or two relatively unsophisticated Ukrainian missiles claimed one of the largest warships sunk in combat since World War II. The disaster — the causes and timeline of which are being suppressed by the same Russian authorities who insist they are not at war — is in part a likely outcome of a complacent naval force and outdated ships and systems.

But it is also an unmistakable warning — that today's run-of-the-mill missiles and commercial data systems can knock even the world's top warships out of a fight.

I have a nice Delta IV submarine in 1/350 to do, I'll put it aground on the beach, but I need a tractor in 1/350. Does anyone know if there are tractors in 1/350?

I plan to convert it and build it as "Ukraina" perhaps. Hope I dont fail the morality test set out above...

Russia may rule the Black Sea but any amphibious assault on the Ukrainian coast seems risky so long as Kyiv's defences threaten any warships that venture too close, experts say.
According to British intelligence sources, Russia operates around 20 warships in the Black Sea, although the numbers are static as Turkey, which controls the Bosphorus, blocks any access by vessels belonging to a warring party.

American intelligence played a role in Ukraine targeting and ultimately sinking the flagship of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, according to multiple news reports, an indication of how U.S. assistance has made tangible impacts amid Russia’s ongoing invasion in Ukraine.

U.S. officials that spoke with NBC News, which was the first to report about the development, and The New York Times indicated that the United States helped confirm Ukrainian targeting data for the ship.

Officials that spoke to NBC News said that the decision to attack the Moskva did not involve the U.S. and that it was not aware ahead of time that Ukraine would target the Russian warship.

The Moskva sank last month after it was hit by two Neptune missiles fired by Ukrainian forces, according to U.S. and Ukrainian officials, causing it to explode and catch fire. The loss of the ship was considered a major blow to Russia’s Black Sea Fleet.
