.

Gallery was an idiot. He disobeyed orders, as the Allies had enough enigmas and 4-wheel Bombes that they were more interested in NOT letting the Germans know they had another pinched.

Weeeell, plenty of Confederate ships were captured, even reused. One could debate whether the vessels of an intranational rebellion count as "enemy ship".

There were also warships taken from Spain after that combat, and many seized from the Central Powers when the US entered the Great War.

Doing my part tossing sabots. :-D

Should have qualified as "captured on the high seas" since the war of 1812.

I have a photo of Rear Admiral Gallery inspecting my dad's ship in San Diego after it returned from the war in the Pacific. An easily identifiable man! Hey generations of visitors to Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry are benefactors!
