Hi everybody,

I spent a rainy afternoon in sunny Florida yesterday viewing many of the builds in the completed models section of this forum. The skill and workmanship is beyond belief....
One of the most intriguing subjects I saw were several models of the RM Roma and one of an Italian heavy cruiser.
My question for you naval historians is did the RM use the red and white diagonal air identification stripes throughout the course of the war or were they eliminated later in the conflict?
Most nations, I believe, as the war progressed, did everything possible to obscure both profile and overhead views of their warships.....I'm just trying to understand the rationale of the RM if indeed those stripes were retained throughout the conflict.
I hope this is the correct area of the forum to pose this question, as I'm relatively new to the site.

Thanks, Mike Lee

BTW...The RM Roma is a beautiful ship!

I don't know about the Italian fleet in general, but Littorio lost her air recognition stripes in November 1942, Veneto lost them around the same time, while Roma kept them until the end.
