Great flick for sure but my vote still goes to Captain and Commander or Das Boot... :thumbs_up_1:

Undoubtedly "Master and Commander" translated into Chinese and retranslated back in to English...

In that case it might emerge as "the Lord of the ship and the mandarin who issue orders."

I'll walk away now.

Even if you don't appreciate "sewerpipe saiing". Das Boot is worth the price.

The greatest naval movie ever made will be made when they do a spot-on version of HMS Ulysses.

I would say the CGI has gotten to the point where we could do an epic on the Grand Fleet from 1914 to 1919.

Captain and Commander???

Opps..Too much Bally hoo on the Holiday....But on a ship is not the Captain the Commander?? I know "A" Captain in rank is not always a commander but "The Captain" which can be a Seaman, a Petty Officer on up to an Admiral is always the Commander.. It's a Navy thing for sure, Now on my boat the wife is "Commander" and I am Crew...
Thanks for the correction... hic!

"The Cruel Sea" and the TV version of "Das Boote".

Both have their faults, but otherwise they are head-and-shoulders above the others.

I still think "The Gallant Hours" with Jimmy Cagney as Admiral Halsey is the best non-action movie about WW.II.

As a non-naval movie, I recently saw "Joyeux Noël", which was one of the best war movies I have ever seen.

I don't know, for those lovebirds out there Pearl Harbor might be the best non-action movie of WWII :heh:

You can't be serious. See my post above. The best non-action movie is "The Gallant Hours"!

Werner,

I was joking - by calling Pearl Harbor a non-action movie for reasons I'm sure everyone understands.

To be a non-action movie, it still had to be a movie - which it most certainly was not.

I presume you mean Pearl Harbor with Affleck?

You're just upset because it couldn't stand up to the Batley Townswomans Guild presents the Battle of Pearl Harbour

Well, one has to admit that they did better things - definitely Nazi War Atrocities comes out top of the list.
